TC Rear 5-Lug Conversion FYI

For those with TC rears wanting to convert to 5-Lug, via SN-95, I have a tip for you. The TC mounting plate and anti-moan setup can stay in place. You will need to shim the SN-95 Caliper/Bracket to center over the rotor. And use the SN-95 caliper bracket to plate bolts because they are longer. That'll also give you an idea of how much you need to shim. The caliper lines are the same (or nearly the same) so you can leave those in place. Now would be a good time to replace those parking brake lines too. :D

yep, figured that out when I did the drag bird rearend. you only have to shim out 1/4 to 3/8" it looks like. still plenty of bolt length with the TC bolts.

couple questions for a buddie(who might be buyin my TC rear axle complete;) ) on ways to convert to 5lug on the cheap.
option 1:
arent the sn95 axles and TC axles the same length? makin it possible to use sn95 axles and simply re-drill the TC rotors to have the 5lug?
option 2:
is it possible to use ranger axles(2 pass side yadda yadda) and the sn95 rotors and calipers? would the shorter axles make up for the difference in hat depth, allowin for more wheel backspacing with the narrower track, and eliminating/minimizing the need to shim the caliper bracket?

hes a drag race guy, and likes to do stuff on the cheap so if you have any info on either or both of these options, let us know!

The 8.8 TC housing is the same width as the SN-95 stuff, so yes you can use the SN-95 axles in that housing. The axles are the same length between the two, so no weird spacing compesation will be needed.

You can drill the TC rotors to 5-lug, but you also need to open up the center hub hole since the 5-lug "hub" is larger than the 4-lug stuff. I have TC brakes w/ SN_95 axles on the Tbird.

i thought that was how the 83 was setup. so thats a definate workin combo.

Sorry to revive an old thread Chuck, but are TC rear brakes more desirable than rear SN95 brakes? TC rear calipers are supposed to have bigger pistons than SN95 calipers, but aren't SN95 rear rotors larger than rear TC's? If that's the case, would you get better braking by swapping TC rear brakes for SN95 rears?

Is it really as simple as sliding in the axles and all the TC stuff bolts back up? All you need is the 5 lug rotors and enlarged hub opening? I saw a thread somewhere that had those rotors..... HUMMMMM.

I used them, because it's what I had at the time. I have some Cobra stuff to swap on, when I get a chance. I'd steer towards the SN-95 stuff if I was buying new-ish. Parts are a little more readily available, I imagine.

And yes, it's as simple as using the 94-98 Mustang axles and modding the rotors as mentioned.

i prefer the TC rotors because they're vented and have larger brake pads. the sn95 rear rotors are solid and use a smaller brake pad.
