Nice cop...

Well I was on my way to work today...running a little late...doing 70+ mph...and a cop comes down the road the opposite direction...if I hammered on the brakes, he'd know I was speeding and get me...I was hoping his radar wasn't on(6:45am)....so I lay off the gas, get in the right lane and cruise at a cool 55mph....he swings around, follows me for a bit then lights'em up.  I was like F*CK!!!  He comes up to the window asks me for my papers, then says, do you know why I pulled you over?  I felt like saying, "duh, I was hauling ass", but instead simply said no. He said he clocked me doing 72mph...in a 50 zone nonetheless.

After about 15 minutes he comes back up to my car and says, "I cut you a break on the speeding ticket," so I figure he knocked it down to 15-19mph over instead of 20-24 over, he continues on, "I just wrote you a seatbelt ticket, no points, no court appearances...it's only 54 bucks and our munil building is right across the street".  I had a huge grin and said, "thank you officer, I appreciate it, I'll be more careful from no on".

So instead of a $200 ticket + court costs, points, and a required court appearance, I have a $54 ticket, no court costs, no points.  WOO-HOO!

Dude, you got lucky with that, but why'd you lie to him ? I know a couple of cops, and I think that they'd get pissed, hell even I would get pissed if you told me you didn't know why I stopped you after you'd been doing 20 over the limit.

You can pretty much tell if someone is hauling ass even if they're coming the opposite way, and I think you'd have been even better off just telling him that you're late for work - most of the time the guy/gal will appreciate you telling the truth and not trying some bullshiznit story.

I got pulled over tonight for 42 in a 25.  The cop was questioning the shiznit outta me.  Asked if I was living out of my car because it was a bit messy from last week's trip, asked where I was going "Why?  What's the address?"  Ran my license like 3 times, and it finally came back right. The first two times it came back as Hilliard, OH, expired & suspended.  Sheesh.  Then he asks to see my insurance card and he's looking all around the car, checking the VIN and all that.  It's the most I've been interrogated ever.  I got off with no ticket, though, so it's all good.  Just an odd experience.

A Cop sat downtown with my friends and I and bullshiznitted with us for a good hour. I showed him pics from a carshow we had a week or so ago, and of the concert I went too. Then some pics of the Cougar, WHICH I GOT OUT TODAY. I told him to stay away, because I have to update tags to drive it.

i just got nailed for doing 38 in a 25, it was 5:40 am and I was just tired and not paying attention, and in a city I don't live in (was at a confrence), the cop asked me after looking at my license, "so where you stay?" I was like *my address*, and he then said looking very confused "what are you doing down here?" sleepily I replied, "staying at a friends for a confrence" and was like "oh... um, i'll be right back"

only got 5 over, I do know that street pretty well cause I stay with my friend a few times a week, but normally am not out that eary and never speed, lots of joggers with dogs and kids and stuff. but i'll take 5 over instead of 13 over anyday.

How long did he follow you? When you slowed down to 55 was the speed limit 50?

Just wondering. My experience thus far has been when I fly by them and they come after me and follow me, if I do the limit or just below the limit, they don't pull me over.

lol I actually like the "just hammer it" part got me out of a 150 in a 100 a couple months ago. I crested a bit of a rise in the highway and just as I got to a top a cop car was going the other way, I saw his signals pop on and he stopped to do a u-turn (there were cars behind me he had to wait for) I just kept it floored (car tops out at 165 so I wasnt going to get going any faster) took the next right, down the road, accross a small field and parked behind my buddies dads shop for about an hour.

I sat there and listened to the cop going down the highway with the siren on, then he circled the backroads a couple times before giving up, needless to say I kept to the speed limit the rest of the way out and rarely go more than 10 over on that stretch of the highway.

Before anyone starts ranting its a long straight stretch of highway (probabally 6-7km or more) And I lived out that way for 10 of the past 14 years and travel that road regularily, that was the only close call i've ever had on that part of the highway.

A buddy of mine got out of a speeding ticket the same way you did.  The cop pulled him over for doing 80 on a highway, and simply gave him a seatbelt ticket.  From what I understand, in some states police get a small bonus for each seatbelt ticket they write.  So rather than writing you a ticket for speeding, possibly having to show up in court, and getting only extra work out of the deal, they will simply cut you a break with a seatbelt ticket.

I've been pulled over twice, the first time for 60 in a 45 and second was 40 in a 25.  The first time I got away with only a $40 fine for no registration and a warning for 45+ in a 45.  The second time I was only given a verbal warning.  I've found out that if you just give straight answers and are courteous, cops will usually cut you a break.

I slowed to 55 as soon as I saw him hit his brakes(I coasted down) and was in a 50 zone, yes...but most people drive 60-65 on that stretch of road... and people started passing me anyway.

As far as lying...it's called "playing dumb" and it's worked for me many times...

Nate, if you want cops to stop beatin' on ya so much, GET A HAIR CUT...lol, j/k.

TC50- I have out manuevered the po-po 3 times in my younger dumber years(read 2yrs ago).  I was driving a borrowed 240sx 5-speed at night...doing about 90 in a 50.  Killed the lights, used the brakes minimally, did a lot of downshifting and e-braking to slow down when necessary...a lot of doubling back down little side streets right off the main road.  Not quite T-Bird behavior.

I got pulled over recently for doing 52 in a 45. They ticketed me for no change of address(I moved about a year ago) and told me it would be more then $50. I would have been more happy if they didnt ticket me. Oh well. I was going about 65 before the cop pulled his radar out.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
