Fuel pump is loud?

I notice a loud electric buzzing sound every now and then inside my car, I'm pretty sure its the fuel pump but not 100%. It comes and goes, some days I hear it somedays I don't.  Would this be a a sign of my fuel pump being on its way out? I'm not having any other fuel related problems, and the tank is usually kept near full.

edit: I'm not talking about the regular buzz of the fuel pump, the noise I'm hearing is louder than that.

It may be electrical feed back coming through you radio.

If your fuel pump is gonna be loud, you'll more likely hear that outside the car, as the fuel tank is underneath the trunk for the most part.

It weird, the buzzing isn't the radio because turning the radio on/off doesnt affect it at all. Also I'm pretty sure it isn't the fan motor.

Ignition coil perhaps? I know mine does it, but it's also an MSD model.

AOD?  Does it change if you nudge the shifter one way or the other?  If so, I'm no help, but mine has done that for way over 100,000 miles & it's still kicking.

My heater/radio bezel has one broken tab at the bottom, and buzzes like a bee at certain speeds. A wad of paper held by the ashtray shuts it up.

There's also a few leaves that got past the underhood screens, and sound like hockey cards in a bike's spokes when they get to the fan.

Get one of your friends to lay upside-down on the passenger side, head under the dash, legs over the seat back, while you drive around for a few hours. If he can't find the noise, then just leave him there.

Man I had the same problem with the fuel pump.  IF THE NOISE IS COMMING FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR, AND IF YOU CAN HEAR IT LOUDER WHEN YOU ARE UNDER THE BACK END OF THE CAR AND OUT SIDE OF THE CAR(when the car is running), then it probably is the fuel pump.
Last winter a couple of months after I baught the car, the fuel filter was so cloged that the car would not accelerate.  after that kind of stress on the pump it started making a lot of noise, which seems to be like the humming you described.  Not wanting to be stranded anywhere in the cold and having to pay for a tow, I went and changed that fuel pump that weekend, but I have no idea how long the old one would have lasted in the condition it was it.  The new pump seemes to have solved the problem, but I cant guarantee it, because I did hear the same noise after changing it, but now I havent herd it in many months.

It happend sometimes to me... but its AOD related... I move my column shifter to P then back to D and it goes away....  :screwy:

Check outside if the noise come from front, center or back of the car

I've got the same thing but I can't hear it from the inside, only when I'm behind my car, it's a hissing sound, like a gas pipe leak.

a lot of people with the
BUzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
noise from aod issues dont realize that a plastic round bushing is busted and missing at the linkake gathering spot to the left of the driver side exhaust header.  That makes enough slop that if you slam it back to park it goes away.

if its in the rear of the car and goes away ,,,,, just buy a pump.

unhook the fuel line before the fuel filter,, test the presure there.  the stock Bosch only has a max presure of an amazing 65psi from what i can remember.  I replaced my pump and installed a supercharge v6 fuel pump.  That one puts out about 98psi as well as more liters per hour which i compared in great detail before selecting my pump.  You just have to make sure to shim your existing rubber pump boot cause the new SC pump is much smaller than the bosch.  The nose is designed a little different from the bosch (no regulator round thing a mamabob).

you'll know when its ready to go cause it will probably make variable sounds in frequency from low to high all within the same time frame.

If you carry a spare tire in the car,, now would be a good time to practice dropping the tire flat ways in the trunk to jar the pump back into action.  OR>...... carry a hammer with to give it a bang if it fails.
