Planning my sound system.... Reply #15 – August 03, 2006, 01:47:15 PM One more question. The sony 444 is a 4 channel amplifer, bridgeable to two. It is powering the 2 rockford 10, which are rated at 4ohms each. The amp says its stable to 4 ohms, but im connecting 2 woofers, one per bridge channel, Its safe ? ive heard some bad things about overloading the amp....For know, that woofers punches and kickes every low note with balls !!! Planning my sound system.... Reply #17 – August 03, 2006, 11:12:00 PM Thanks you very much seek. I needed to see this info.Really, the 444 is not a very powerful amp. And powering 2 woofers rated at 150 rms each wouldnt be too much sound, but trust me, it does the work very nice. Of course, it took more time of planning than a normal box because i needed to get the best performance of the amp/sub combo. I sealed totally the box, used the correct wires and with a good tuned electronic crossover and amplifier gain i got a very decent performance... Needless to say, i dont have money to buy a new amplifier..... Quote Selected

Conical or Oval ? Reply #19 – August 07, 2006, 12:42:28 AM Ok, i guess im starting to like how the music is sounding in my trucks. But i am thinking, now i have big bass, and the speakers arent the best. First, the Explorer had the "premiun" oval 5x7 (or 6x8, are they the same?) speakers. I have heard about these speakers nothing but shiznit. All the people said that any aftermarket speaker can sound better than factory. They sound nice, but nothing more. And well, im thinking on buying new speakers. But some guy said to me "why do you want oval speakers ? , you can put some conical speakers, maybe 6 1/2. The sound is better than ovals..."And i remembered the adaptations i needed to do to fit the conical speakers in the F-150 (the factory size is the same 5x7 ,but i have a pair of 5 1/4 in the doors) wasnt fun, but if the conical sounds better than oval, ill go for it. What do you think guys ? Quote Selected
Planning my sound system.... Reply #20 – August 07, 2006, 11:26:55 PM I can't say my self that the conical speakers sound better than the oval speakers but I will rasie a point. How many subs or any High quality speakers have you seen that are oval? Maybe there is more to it than I know. Any how I'll tell you if you want to up grade you by new speakers to replace the factory units I would tell you to get a good set of separates. The one that come with a tweeter that isn't attached. To make the speakers fit in the factory location take some 1/4" thick masonite and cut out the shape of the factory speaker, bolt that to the door and mark where the new speaker will fit into the cutout you just made. then cut the hole for the new speaker shouldn't be that bad. If you need more info let me know I'm always happy to help. By the way masontie is that wood that clip boards are made out of. Quote Selected
Planning my sound system.... Reply #21 – August 10, 2006, 10:00:06 PM Well, i tell you what i did:I went to the store to see the speakers. Because im not a rich boy, i asked only for the decent brand speakers. Well, the 5x7 were there and were not very expensive. I bought the 4 speakers for the explorer. Considering:The explorer has the "mild" sound. With the two 10 " and the bandpass box, powered by the jensen bridged to one channel (and luckily, the 10" are 8ohms, so im not overloading the amp, it says is stable to 2 ohms) . Now it sound very nice with the new speakers, mainly because they have tweeters, and factory doesnt have any tweeters. But the true, yep, like you said, conical speakers sounds better. Actually i did a test with a 6 1/2 with two way tweeter and a 5x7 also with a two way tweeter powered with the same amp at the same gain with the same song, and that was enough to know which speaker was better....... And in the F-150 i have the "savage" sound. With the 444 and the two 10" rockfords doing nothing but bass and more bass , the better sound is more required here. Im going tomorrow or the saturday for a new set of conicals. I want BADLY a set of 6 1/2, because the 5 1/4 are good, but thats all. I guess with some modifications they can fit. ill follow your advice. Thank you ! Quote Selected
