The closer it is to air tight the better it should be. Besides to seal it isn't that hard. In the large gaped side areas use expand foam. Then I used fibereglass resin with the hairs in it to seal the little holes in the rear deck I did use masking tape to block the holes on the bottom side. This worked great. I do have 2 12" mounted right behind the seat. So you clould seal that whole with the masonite and silicone. Then you don't have the box taking up you trunk space, But you still have really good sound. But do as you wish. I had a friend that had 2 10"s mounted in the rear deck of his Dodge Aspen and didn't seal the trunk from the rest of the car and it still sounded good. Just not as loud. All that does is add extra weight and extra to the car My "separator" between the cabin and the trunk is just going to be some carpeted ABS plastic with perhaps some sound deadener on it... Reply #16 – June 26, 2006, 12:49:51 PM Your original idea would be great Chuck.6.5" components in the doors with the tweeters in the dash and you can hide the crossover that you would use with the components inside the door. That will give you good mids and highs. Then, in the rear decklid, you could either do four more components and then add a small subwoofer and power it all with a 5 channel amp or just get two good quality coaxial 6x9's to put back there and use a nice 4 channel to power everything. Not much of an audiophile, but have a couple questions.. Reply #17 – June 26, 2006, 01:07:39 PM Well I have a 4-channel amp thath I have used before and was just going to use. I don't really want to dump alot of money it it at the moment...just gotta have tunes in the car. I have a decent pair of 6x8's that I might use for the time being. I could always substitute in some 8" subs later. My only concern with the 6-1/2" in the doors is keeping them flush-mounted as I don't want to cut up the door panels, or the doors themselves. This is on the '83, so I don't have the big speaker-grille door panels. Quote Selected

I've used 6.5" speakers in the doors of my '85 and both of my '87s without any issues with clearance. Quote Selected
Not much of an audiophile, but have a couple questions.. Reply #19 – June 26, 2006, 01:38:30 PM Well both the 85 and the 87 have the "speaker-friendly" door panels...the 83-84's cover the speakers completely. Quote Selected

Not much of an audiophile, but have a couple questions.. Reply #23 – June 26, 2006, 11:06:51 PM I don't need 4-12" subs........unless you're talking about a trip to Subway. In that case, I'd have lunch for a week. Quote Selected

Reply #24 – June 27, 2006, 10:27:25 AM QuoteWell both the 85 and the 87 have the "speaker-friendly" door panels...I double-checked some old pics of my '85 and it did not have the built-in plastic speaker grills like the '87s did. It just had carpet there next to the map pocket. I stand by my statement. Even in your '84, the speakers should fit without any clearance issues. If they do not, then I will buy them from you. :D Quote Selected

Not much of an audiophile, but have a couple questions.. Reply #27 – June 28, 2006, 12:10:46 AM IMO if you are doing it for quaity sound round speaker are the way to go. 6" in the doors 3 1/2 or what ever fits it the dash iforget and some 6" in back. and a 10 or what ever you what in the back. if you what to mount it in the panel do it in the middle inbetween the 6's. i would defanitly recomend something else in the back with the sub. just my Oppinion everyones got one. Not much of an audiophile, but have a couple questions.. Reply #28 – June 28, 2006, 12:28:37 AM Chuck, I think you need (6)6x9's across the back, all 4-ways, (4)6.5" speakers in each door, (10) tweeters lining the dashboard. Next, cut the steel panel behind the seat so you can install a custom molded fiberglass housing to hold all 16 of your 18" subs. By my estimate, you'll need about 50,000 gigawatts to run this setup. You might also want to add some air shocks in the rear to keep it from sagging. Quote Selected

It only takes 1.21 gigawatts to travel through time. That might be a better option Chuck. Just forget about all this audio and spring for the flux capacitor! Quote Selected
