This is the mindless I can't stand.

Just browsing Myspace and came across this in the videos section:

What is wrong with it that they have to jump it like that?  Why an XR-7?   I'm looking for one of those and people like that are wasting them....I don't care about blown head gasket, rust rotted strut tower, bent subframe, paint gone ones, but.....just loook at it!!

I regret saying this....but it held up pretty well.....but for what?  A couple laughs?  Jump a Cavalier, a Civic, hell a Sundance :D....anything that can be spotted 7 times in every 10 cars....not that....

Sundances are pretty sturdy...well my 94 with no rust is....but that was totaled by a deer....meaning no one could use it....so we use it to haul stuff around the yard...or relieve stress....I've run it into stuff and jumped it...but this was AFTER we took all the useful stuff out of it.

Classic? The only thing that will ever be classic about our cars is their age.
It's Gumby's fault.

That video bothers most as much as This photo does.. the fact is that there is only a select few that are in to these paticular body styles, although it does look like someone really liked that cougar at some point.

Even I don't like the Cougars, I don't think I would save one if it needed any work done unless I thought I could make money off of it (not likely).  But the TCs do have a special place in my heart, they're just the coolest thing to me, the whole idea of such a car is crazy and Ford did it.  The Cougar deserves some respect, too, though.  (Yeah, XR-7s are just like a TC underneath, but I just don't like the appearance)

In general though, it's stupid to trash any car that isn't already messed up, it's just pure vandalism and destruction.

I'm more of an "Aerobird" freak then a 2.3T nut, so that video pains me. I actually sold my Cougar to a guy who wanted one because it was too nice to mod. I'm still lokkin for a decent one, but most are too nice for what I have planned (the motor I want to use requires some hacking, and YES it's a Ford). I hate it when people ruin these cars. That said though, imagine being a Charger fan...

Shawn and Carmen both have it right 100%.  To most everyone else out there, our cars ARE the ones that no one cares about.  Just the same way we might think of an old '84 Camaro Berlinetta with an iron duke 4-cyl.  Some sick Camaro purist might find that particular car to be the pinnacle of 80's engineering, but to us, it's nothing more than another 80's junk-mobile (which it really, actually is.)

It's a tough lesson to learn, but it's what makes us all special I guess.  We find beauty and awe in cars that are, at the NEWEST, 18 years old.

Which is one thing I really like about "our" cars:  at first glance, they seem like every day junkers, but with some TLC, they can really stand out and be prime examples of the last true original American cars (before everything went "puppies" style; not including remakes like the new Mustang).

Even though I prefer the body styling of the Tbirds, Cougars make really nice cars (and do look quite good, dont get me wrong) and shouldnt be destroyed unless it's already gone.

I'm wierd when it comes to t-bird/cougar preference.  From '83-'86 I like both Coug and T-bird, but I have a slight preference for the Birds.  But from '87-'88 it's all Cougar, all the way (Eh, I'd drive an 87-77 TurboCoupe, fa sho!).  The first 'one that got away' for me was an '88 XR-7, loaded except leather, I think, had a nice aftermarket system, no rust.  It was only $1200... *sigh* I waited too long to call and the car was gone!
