Just traded

You folks and my Cougar are turning me into a Ford freak. Just traded my 85 GMC for a 90 F150. 300 I6, SEFI fuel injection, T5 transmission. Does anyone have a link to a good F150 sight where I can check my VIN to see if this is all factory stock?

Thanks
Bill

yeah it is stock f-150's used to all be inline 6's. My 78 E-150 full sized van has a 300 inline six with a 4 speed.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Yep, the 300 is the base engine in F150's right up until 1997. Unless it's a '96 it ain't SEFI, though, it's "batch fire" (three injectors fire at a time), and IIRC, it ain't a T5 either.  I seem to remember it's a Mazda tranny, similar to the one in Supercoupes

Actually I though the most common engines in the f-150's were the v6's with the 300 I6's in the f-250's? Also I dont think it was a t5 behind the 300, I believe the torque would eat it without flinching

Thanks guys. Actually I've had a little experience with a 300 six F150. I put about 130K miles on one as a company truck. Really liked the engine. The EAOD completely quit just out of warranty. Cost AT&T $2500 at the dealership.

my buddies 91 f150 4X4 has the inline 6 in it and it is in deed a mazda transmission. from the way it was explained to me they shred pretty easy with very much power in front of them. But the guy turned his driveshaft into a twizzler and snapped it in half and the tranny still works fine so that may have just been someone blowing smoke. but I do know for a fact that ford used a special 5 speed Mazda transmission in the 90's models F150's for sure not sure how far back it goes

There were fuelies before 95, I am pretty sure at least........

Anyways, yes the new inline-6 was a mazda tranny.

also, I thought f-250's were all 351 or 460? I have never seen an inline 6 in a f250

There were fuelies as far back as '86, but there was only SEFI in the '96 model year. Same intake, same injectors, but different wiring and different harness. 95 and older trucks used "batch fire" fuel injection, just like the '88 V6 'Bird/Coug. I would imagine that the only reason the 300 got SEFI in '96 is that it was the first year OBD-II was mandatory.

The 300 was the base engine in all light duty (150, 250, 350) trucks. I have actually seen F350 4X4's with the 300. The thing was so torquey Ford could get away with it.

Tom: AFAIK, the very early 80's F100/150 had a 3.8 V6 engine option. Come to think of it, it may have been a one year only thing (either 82 or 81)

Another good pace for truck info is Ford-Trucks.com
There are pros and cons to the 300 six.
I've never had one, so I'm not gonna say either way.
Most of the 87 to 96 trucks I've seen have 5.0 engines.
No T5 ever came stock in any truck that I've EVER heard of...
The 5 speed used in 300 six, and 5.0 trucks is the Mazda M5OD, will handle up to 325 lb-ft, if driven carefully.
There was no manual trans behind 1/2ton 351w trucks from factory, and the 3/4, and ton trucks used a ZF 5 speed behind the 5.8
Hope you enjoy your truck for a long time...:D
