Gas problems. April 17, 2006, 05:20:51 PM How do you know when your sending unit is bad or the float is off? I'm curious because on Saturday I filled the T-bird up and it was a tad bit above empty and my low fuel light was on, so I filled it up and it only took 10 gallons. I researched and found that the 83-86 T-birds have 19 gallon gas tanks. Why would this be happening? Bad gauge or what?!?! Quote Selected
Gas problems. Reply #1 – April 17, 2006, 10:19:36 PM This doesn't belong in engine tech, but does the fuel light go off when you fill it up? Quote Selected

Gas problems. Reply #6 – April 18, 2006, 02:54:02 AM I vote for the voltage regulator on the back of the guage cluster to be going bad. Where does the needle read when the tank is full? Also, your float could be the culprit. Never seen the style of float on these cars, but i'm assuming that it's not foam - so it could be leaking and on its way out. Quote Selected
Gas problems. Reply #7 – April 18, 2006, 09:25:18 AM When it's full, it's a little below F, I believe. Like, right now I'm on like 120 miles with 1/2 tank!!!!!! Quote Selected
Gas problems. Reply #8 – April 18, 2006, 02:34:20 PM Replace the voltage regulator. There is a write up here under the tech articles called "guage fluctuation fix". Quote Selected
Gas problems. Reply #9 – April 22, 2006, 11:22:38 PM another thing to think about is the POS of a tank ford graced is with. Mine is a total POS! if im slightly on an upward slope so the front of the car is slighly higher i cant fill up my car thanks to the huge Flat tank which BTW has for Baffling to keep fuel at the pump.
