lowering help April 12, 2006, 11:54:51 AM I was just wondering what the easiest way to get the front springs out of my 84 bird. I tried dropping the control arm from the balljoint but the control arm sticks into the back lip of the rotor so it wont drop down. Then I tried removing the bolts for the control arm which was semi succesful. The dam bolts on the front part would hit the sterring linkage and not pull out. So do I have to completely remove the whole rotor and caliper before attempting to get the springs out? Quote Selected
lowering help Reply #1 – April 12, 2006, 12:20:18 PM Yes..the rotor has to be removed....You will still need to pry the spring off the lower control arm even when the arm is swung all the way down. Don't stick your face in there, and use a prybar to pop it loose from the control arm. There is still some stored energy in the stock-length springs, so it will come out with a little force...but it will be travelling down. If you are installing springs that are like the stockers (read: long), either using a spring compressor or removing the inner bolts instead (and yes you will need to loosen the rack to get it out of the way). You won't get the long springs installed with just having the arm swung down loose at the ball joint. Quote Selected
lowering help Reply #2 – April 12, 2006, 02:25:26 PM Well im using stock fox body springs. The rears went in prefectly and I love the drop. Will the springs im using be considered long? They look abit taller which concerns me cuz I dont want it to lift the suspension. Quote Selected
lowering help Reply #3 – April 12, 2006, 02:41:57 PM Yes, they are "long".... you will either need the compressor (internal) or leave the ball joint attached and remove/drop the control arm mounting at the K-member. Quote Selected
