Paint for my engine compartment

I want to clean up and paint my engine compartment while the motor is out.  I want it the same color as the body (it's an 88 TC, maroon I guess you'd call it).  Does anyone sell full size touch up paint cans so it matches, or should I just buy and test spray different colors?  OR, do I just go for default and paint it satin black?

iThey should make that color in a full size spray can. I know Oreilly sells them. If they don't offer that color ina spray can you can have a piant shop mix some and put it into a can. The best way to get a match would be to take a body panel off and take it to the paint shop and hvae them scan it. Then even if it has faded you can get some paint that matches. I've had it where the faded color matches some import paint that I could buy in a spray can. Hope this helps. If you do go black I tell you to use Flat black first then the satain.

The problem is, most body paints wont hold of to the heat and the abuse that your engine will create. That, and most engine enamels stick to less-than-clean area's much better than the body paint.

Used PPG Ford metalic silver on mine. Then again I don't drive it much so the heat thing shouldn't be a problem......I think.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

Yep, I used PPG as well in my engine bay.  Looks great, easy to clean, and easy to buy.

haven't you guys ever seen them Car TV shows. I know they maybe don't do the best for longevity but they use regular car paint on there stuff. I've used in on my car. painted the block and head and intake parts. I did buy the extra high heat paint for the exhust manifold but it bakee off any way.

hmmm, well, If the engine paint will stick and last better, I'd like to use that...but I'm doubting they make a lot of high-temp paint colors!

I used the high-temp paint on mine but I don't know if it's necessary though.  What I wasn't happy with was the toughness of the paint.  It seemed to scratch pretty easily.  Jason.

Ya that high heat temp paint just baked off anyways. Btw the paint I used was a rattle can from wal-mart. Supposed to be header/manifold paint. But that baked off in a matter of 4 minutes.

Ok, well, maybe I'll try PPG.

But now:  What would be best for actual engine parts?  Block, valve covers, intakes, accesoriery brackets and acesories...

Just use the regualar car paint on them. The only part that really needs anything special is the exhust mani. I'm runin reg car paint on my block , head,Vc, throttle body. As long as the parts are clean it should last a long time.
