OK, it's that time of year: (warning, sports-related)

..and that sport would be (American) pro football.

Yes, this is my lame attempt at a tired old forum topic to get things to lighten up a little. Sorry. I'm far from a sports fanatic.. pretty much NFL football is it for me, unless I'm bowling on a league.. (and w/ bowling, I'd rather do than watch) so don't expect me to litter the board every other month with yet another rah-rah sports topic.

Well, my year's pretty much shot.. the Bucs are suckin', the Jags are iffy, and the Fins are suckin' harder than anyone else other than SanFran.

But that doesn't prevent me (or you) from commenting, just to give the Lounge something other than yet another meaningful argument. :D

My Stupid Super Bowl Prediction: Steelers over Falcons.

Why?

1) The Pats are doing crazy things to win. Crazy things I LOVE to see in a football game, like WRs playing defense and kickers throwing TD passes. However, they're wounded. I think the Squealers will edge them out in the AFC title game.

2) The NFC sucks right now. Just about any good AFC team is going to smack any "good" NFC team around.

3) The Eagles are accomplished choke-artists. They'll make it to a fourth NFC title game and blow it. Expect rioting.

4) The Falcons are the epitome of an up-and-down team. I don't think they've had back-to-back winning seasons as long as I've been alive, and they were 5-11 last year, so hey.. why not. :p

OK everyone who's willing to respond.. (and if you hate pro football, please save it for another thread) let's hear your take.

Well, I'm not giving up on the Pats just yet  :grinno: Perhaps I'm a bit biased, but if the Pats get anywhere close to healthy by the end of the year, the Stealers will realize how lucky they were to have won the first meeting. The only thing worse than playing a well prepared and healthy Belichick Pats is playing a well prepared and healthy Pats after having beat them in the same year previously  :2gunsfiri

I'm not expecting much after winning the Superbowl (and the World Series), but DO NOT count out my boys!

I can and will count New England out. Not that I think they don't have it.. they obviously do. It's just that an injury here or there can swing things one team's way these days, and no one's truly dominant anymore. The Pats seem to be pretty beat up, if they're using Troy Brown on defense and stuff like that. (which I personally think rocks, but isn't the greatest sign of depth) I think the Squealers (a team I don't really care for) will ride the season all the way out for the W in the big one.. although I think the AFC title game is going to be a hell of a lot more of a fight than the Super Bowl. (my NFC pick, Atlanta, will be sure to disappoint.. it's how they work. There will be a truckload of hype around Vick, all for naught) I'm pretty sure the Eagles will lay down for the Falcons.. because they seem to for anyone who shows up to the NFC title game.

It's not that I dislike the Pats.. I don't, even though I pull for Miami whenever the two play. (which is a disaster of a proposition right now) It's just that the Squealers seem to have something going right now, and it seems like something that might last until January.

Well, I'm not good at predicting future events, but considering that the Pats won it all last year and are playing a bit beat up this year, I am surprised at the lack of a letdown by this team AND I think that this sort of diversity is actually good for a Belichick team where he can use the injuries to rally some of the lesser known players so they will have experience when he needs one of them in a pinch. I'm also in awe of the Stealers at this point in the season, but I've seen hot teams in the past and will just wait until the pressure is on before I fully beleve that they are for real.

Edit: BTW, my misspelling of Steelers is deliberate  :dunce: any other misspellings are purely coincidental  :grinno:

Ah, just a bunch of wussies.
Tiny little field, 4 chances for a 1st down, QB has all the time in the world to pass, etc, etc...  :shakehead

C'mon up north for some manly-man football.

As for the rest: Misspell it all you like.. note that I tend to call them the Squealers. :p

Football sucks. Anything that pre-empts The Simpsons should be outlawed.

Hey, just 'cuz I have satellite TV with time shift and could, in theory, watch the Simpsons from 5:00PM through 2:00AM unbroken, 5 nights a week, doesn't mean I can't do with more :D

Steelers RULE!!!!... Oh sorry, they're my team tho! I hope like heck they make it all the way. It's nuts to see 3 teams with such a ridiculous w/l season going down. It's something to be in awe of.

Just for the record, my two teams are the Bears (DA Bears!) and the 'Skins. The 'Skins season is pretty much over (thanks to Mark "I have Twizzlers for arms!" Brunell), but the Bears aren't looking too shabby! Now that they have a competent quarterback (Quinn?!? QUINN?!? He STARTED??) and a killer defense (who basically won all the games this year), this is one potent team. And of course it helps when they beat the Vikings, the Packers at home earlier this year, and also that the Packers got ruined by the Eagles yesterday....

I predict the Bears going to the playoffs at least  :ies:
