What is the deal with the TINY exhaust pipes on trucks

I really don't get why all these guys are putting "duals" on on their trucks and run 2" or smaller pipes out the back. I know it gives them that raspy, redneck sound but geez...for one it looks stupid, for two...how does a dual 1 1/2" exhaust help performance? I even saw an eclipse the other day with glasspacks and what looked like dual 1 1/2" pipes coming out the back. :dunce: That's hi-po right there!

They've got to get that redneck sound somehow...    That pea-shooter look is terrible and the tinky sound is even worse

Something with a small amount of displacement should not have too big an exhaust.  If the Eclipse's exhaust was 1 1/2" after it splits into duals and say 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" further up where it is one pipe it may actually be a good setup for it.

That size pipe on a relatively large V8 is IMHO a waste of time, money, and effort however.  Think off the power lost higher in the RPM range and the gas mileage drop when driving on the highway.

LOL...not too long ago i saw a kid with his eclypse all riced out and he had a fake 4 inch dual exaust. i knew it was fake causy you could see the ground through the exaust on one side...it was killing me not too have a camera...

same thing the other day, no camera. i was driving down the highway and saw a realy sweet tsi wrx subaru..that sweet blue...awesome car. as i slowly wheeled past it eyeballing the car i peeked in too see who was driving it. usually its some punk kid but sometimes its a little hottie...thats the best. a hot girlie in a sweet car. what made me laugh, quite litterally out loud was the car was being driven by a little old lady. easilly 65 years old short white hair in curlers.....funniest thing ive seen on the highway in a long time...

Drinkin again?

They must be cheap rednecks or something cause up here we either put 4" or 5" smoke stacks or 3" duals. Every once in awhile youll see one with a garden hose exhuast but most of the time there big.

I only see the big exhausts, and the stacks, on the diesels. Although I did see a V8 superduty last year with stacks. But I see LOTS of diesel superdutys and dodges with twin 5" stacks, which looks pretty stupid.

I made a comment about the 5" stacks once (I think on stangnet) and someone said "well that's what size they run on semis." Yeah exactly...on semis, which are HUGE, so the 5" pipes look better proportionally. On a pickup truck I think 3.5", maybe 4" stacks would be just right...but that's not what anyone runs.
