Hard to select gears on an AOD

My shifter has been getting worse latley, its hard to find reverse and nuetral, and figuring out if I'm in drive or overdrive is a bit tricky as well. Is there any adjustment I can do to help this out? Do I need new bushings or something somewhere? If anyone has some input let me know. Thanks

The shifter is on the colloum, not the floor.

If you take your trim off of the steering column and pull the instrument clster you will see a cable that runs from thecolumn shift to the gear indicator.  You can move it/adjust it.  Make sure you tighten it up before putting everything back together.

And you will probably find the white plastic clamp around the steering shaft that the indicator cable is attached to is broke from age.

I used a hose clamp around it and adjusted the indicator and tightened up the hose clamp.

That's if you mean the pointer doesn't match the actual shifter position.
I assume the trans goes into the proper gear when you count the "clicks" from park?

Be careful with that plastic clamp, as they do seem to be rather easy to snap. I broke mine, but then again, I'm a spaz. :flip:  That hose clamp idea is a good one though.

Mine broke (on it's own I never touched it) just after I bought the car 4 years ago. I put a hose clamp on it and it's been fine since then.

Oh yeah dumb question but has anyone found a new gear indicator for the column shift?

Thanks guys. I'll try to tear it apart sometime next week.

And yes, the tranny goes into the gears correctly if you count the clicks, I'm just sick of doing it.
