4.6 DOHC swap November 29, 2004, 06:56:56 PM I have a 94 cougar and I purchased a 4.6 DOHC to do that fun little swap with... however, Ive noticed this guy has an 87 turbocoupe 5 speed sitting around and I have talked to him before and said he would sell it. to me for like 300$ it needs some TLC and minor work But I was thinking what if I were too swap the 4.6 into the Turbocoupe : ) I would have to go with an auto tranny obviously.. but still this fox platform would prove much lighter and faster as well as have the 8.8" Rear besides I already have fiberglass cowl hood and quarter panels from my other 88' Do you think it can be done ? has anyone ever seen this before ?? Re: 4.6 DOHC swap Reply #2 – November 29, 2004, 07:31:06 PM I've seen it done in a '92 Mustang, so it will fit into a TC. You will need a 4.6 front crossmember, and you'll have to use some other master cylinder(probably from a Cobra Stang), which means doing away with the factory ABS setup. Then there is the matter of wiring it up, thats gonna be the real bitch. Definatly will need the orignal EEC and 4.6 harness, or maybe one from Painless(but they do put a painful dent in the wallet). Re: 4.6 DOHC swap Reply #4 – November 29, 2004, 08:02:41 PM There was a really, REALLY nice 87-88 T-Bird with a 4.6 DOHC featured in a Hot Rod magazine a while ago. It was, in my eyes, the perfect Fox T-Bird Quote Selected
Re: 4.6 DOHC swap Reply #5 – November 29, 2004, 10:19:17 PM well lets put it this way lol.. the guy said hes giving me everything I need the EEC all the wiring harnesses.. even the engine mounts. hes also getting a transmission when he finds one for this bolt pattern ( 6 bolt 4R70W out of Mark 8 ) and even a driveshaft.. its just I dont know the length of the turbocoupes driveshaft and the difference between the driveshaft I would need in my MN12.. dont want to accidently cram one lol I am sure with my buddy mike we could accomplish it if I want to for pretty cheap, My only concern is how many snags I would run into on the fox apposed to the cougar.. no offense MN12s but I really miss my 88 birdy :shakehead but if I have all of the wiring and the computer should it be fairly easy besides any fabrication and making the drivetrain work right ?? wouldnt it be neat to have a touring ( turbocoupe ) bird with 300 hp DOHC as well as my other 88 Thunderbird setup for pro street with a 514 big block I know "Thunderbird50" had a bunch of brother birds if i remember from a while ago when I would come on here... I just want to have both of em and do something new and different Thanks Guys Quote Selected
