Bottom end the motor is almost identical exept the pistons. Here is what you need off of a mustang, or some lincolns, even some newer years of cougars/tbirds(91-93 with the 5.0)

# Fuel Injection - speed density or mass air
# E7TE casting heads - (1987-up Mustang 5.0, Ford F-150 5.0)
# HO-specific camshaft
# HO Upper intake manifold (optional)
# HO Throttle Body (optional)
# Stock Mustang HO 5.0 Computer
# Stock 19 lb/hr fuel injectors (Mustang)
# New MAP sensor
# New EVP/EGR sensor

I have heard that you do not need a new map sensor or evp/erg. After these parts are in there, you will go from 150 hp to 225 or so. And then you *should* be able to use any mustang after market performance part for the 87-93 mustangs. With a supercharger down the road, I would get better pistons at the least, and prolly better heads.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

The reason that most suggest swaping the entire engine, if for the fact that the mustang engine has pistons that have valve reliefs, which give you more head/cam options.

With the flat top pistons in the standard output (tbird/cougar) 5.0, you have limited options of head/cam combos because there is less clearance for the valves. You can run trick flow twisted wedge heads, and a trick flow #1, which has been proven by a member here, thats what he runs.

Also, if youre doing any serious mods, youll need a mustang mass air flow computer, and wiring in the mass air meter, and run 19# injectors, and once you do that, you can throw any mod at the engine that will bolt up and work.
It's Gumby's fault.
