Hm...should I not have a tarp over my car? December 11, 2005, 01:25:11 AM So I was on another forum talking about storing my car for the winter and I mentioned that I had a car cover over my car, with a tarp over that. Someone on there told me that I shouldn't have the tarp on my car because it will damage my paint by trapping moisture under it.I coulda swore there was a couple people on here that said they had put car covers over their cars with a tarp over that, and I never heard mention of any problems with paint.Just wondering. Hm...should I not have a tarp over my car? Reply #2 – December 11, 2005, 07:41:29 AM I can't see the harm in it as long as the tarp is tight enough that it doesn't move with the wind Quote Selected
Hm...should I not have a tarp over my car? Reply #3 – December 11, 2005, 08:39:26 AM I don't see a problem with it. I use a blanket to cover the car, then a car cover and then a tarp over that. Quote Selected
Hm...should I not have a tarp over my car? Reply #4 – December 11, 2005, 12:50:01 PM That's what I was thinking...I have it "bungeed" down so it won't blow around. The whole reason I used the tarp is because I don't trust the car cover alone. It's a cheap one and it definitely doesn't repel water. Quote Selected
Hm...should I not have a tarp over my car? Reply #5 – February 02, 2006, 06:27:41 PM Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but using a tarp ruined the clearcoat on my 'bird by trapping moisture underneath it. Your best bet is a quality, breathable cover. Quote Selected
Hm...should I not have a tarp over my car? Reply #6 – February 06, 2006, 08:17:23 AM I'm with JR97Cobra I also used a tarp to cover my car when I wasn't working on it. It made the clear coat and some of the paint come off. I'd say to get a good breathalbe cover. Most of the time You can get a boat cover pretty cheap. Quote Selected
Hm...should I not have a tarp over my car? Reply #7 – February 06, 2006, 12:49:21 PM Well, if my paint gets messed up, oh well. The clearcoat was already bubbling and peeling in a couple places anyway. I'll just fix it. Quote Selected
