Yeah, and I asked that all the others be deleted to try and avoid people going off on him.

Granted, it's pretty stupid as questions go.. but we all ask some real winners now and again.

True 'nuff. We weren't all born mechanics y'know - why, when I was 16 I actually paid somebody to put a flywheel into my Trans Am. When I went looking for a T-Bird after test-driving one a few months earlier I didn't know what years had what body style or interior, and even as recently as 1996 I thought that the 5.0 in these things was the HO (didn't even know the SO existed). Heck, I even wrote MM&FF magazine's "Ask Bernie" with a question about whether a TC hood would fit my '85 and what I could do with my carbureted 3.8. They published the letter (would've been around late 93-early 94) and answered that the TC hood would not fit and that I would be better off chucking the 3.8 and dropping a 5.0 HO in - one outta two ain't bad, I guess)

Let's give the guy a break and not present ourselves as a Corral.net copycat...

That  drives me nuts, especially when you ask some publication for advice. If you ask if something can be done with the 3.8, they should've answered about the 3.8.. not this tired nonsense about "just chuck it and put in a 5.0". Oh yeah, if I ask about something a little different, I KNOW I want to be told to just be like everyone else.

Hey now, easy there, fellah, it's just a car :brick:

Joking apart, you're right, of course. MM&FF magazine seems to have but bone canned response for those "What can I do with it" questions. I had even mentioned in my letter that being a Canadian car and thus computer and fuel-injection free, I did not need to worry about wiring. If it would physically fit, it would work. Instead of saying "A 302 with a cam, intake, 4-bbl and e7 heads would work good" they ignored my non-FI status and recommended the HO conversion anyway. They were right, though, in stating that the carbureted 3.8 had little potential. And remember, this was before the Mustang had the 3.8 as the base engine, so there was ZERO aftermarket support for that li'l engine...

BTW, if anyone has an old MM&FF magazine with "Tangerine Dream" on the cover look for "Bird Basher" in the Ask Bernie section. If you have it, scan it or take a photo and post it - I'd like a reminder on just how green I was back then...

Magazines like you to believe that what they would do is what you should do, it happens all the time when you read through the questions in the back. They answer a few of a persons questions then say that what they WANT to do is no good and they should do this instead.

I'm surprised they didnt tell you to get a mustang instead

We were all green at one point and we all asked stoopid questions and we usually got a stupid answer before a proper one. But that was part of the fun, asking a bunch of old geezers why your skidoo blew up and having them laugh because you have the wrong plugs and the carb is leaned out (who knew :giggle: ) I still know people that think a 302 and a 5.0 are completely different engines :wtf:

And since this question was posted in multiple forums as Ifixyawata said and the poster hasnt been back since I am guessing this is spam:dunce: but I could be wrong
