5.0 HO valve covers or a tad taller equal type *solved*

FWIW -- You can run a tall valve cover with a 1 inch spacer for the upper and lower intake manifold.

This WILL clear a stock hood. We're blessed with more room under a hood than a fox platform Mustang as far as height is concerned. The valve covers I have are VERY tall. I run a 1 inch spacer AND a 3/8ths inch spacer because I had interference from the throttle linkage with just the one inch. I had to bend the metal tube on top of the throttle body a bit to clear, but you may not have to (I run a 75 mm throttle body).

It all clears. It's TIGHT, but it clears.

I solved this issue by:
-omitting the 1.3'' locking nuts and replacing with .9'' locking nuts
-use of factory Explorer metal valve cover gaskets siliconed to the heads.
-use of cork gasket on the valve covers.
-all items clear stock valve covers now.

same set up, but mine didn't clear.. :toilet: and if I remember right, it wasn't the tube that was the problem, it was the front of the upper intake, but it's been a while

That's interesting. I had fairly new motor mounts when I did it. They were in the car about 2 years and had maybe 3,000 miles on them....
