console shifter plate ? (quick one)

just wondering if there were 2 different shifter covers for 87-88 consoles, I got a Turbocoupe console from a guy awhile back, but the floorshifter from a Sport doesnt quite match, is there a diff. between 5 speed and auto?
Thanks

Yes there is a difference between the two.. the hole for the automatic one is narrower on 2 sides, and located in the middle of the cover, whereas the 5 speed's hole is offset towards the driver.

I have both sitting in my garage, I can go snap a picture of both beside eachother, if you want.

well on my 85 cougar XR7 2.3 turbo it has the 5spd shiznit cover but it has a metal trim plate that clips on to make if fit the shifter. maybe that was just on the older ones.
