Got a cassette deck today.

it's from a 86 Mustang so the dial lighting is red :\ The bigger problem, the presets are all gummed up. I can tune the radio manually, and I can pull the presets out to set them, and they push back in ok, but when I push them in to change the station, the dial needle won't move much at all, thus won't change the station and the buttons come back out slowly. Should I try squirting some wd-40 or silicone spray of the like in there? let me know if I shouldn't do that!!

Get a CD player. Unless you are doing a full on restoration, I don't see any point in a factory radio. The car is either factory or it isn't. Once you've done engine mods, and the rest, the need for a cassette player is gone. I doubt it'll boost the value as well. Box it up, install a better head unit, call it done.

Eventually I want to get an aftermarket unit w/ USB & Bluetooth, but for now, this was cheaper. I want one without the CD player, I'll never use it, and they're a lot lighter!

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Oh yeah, they're still fairly new. Here's the one I've got my eye on: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDX200/JVC-KD-X200.html?tp=5684, friend has the X50BT, and it sounds great.

My Ranger had a nice Kenwood unit with USB, and also had 4 Kenwood 5x7's installed... in a regular cab!! if this Cougar had the flat plugs I would have taken my Kenwood with, but the buttons on the front were starting to wear out.

Well, I fiddled around with the radio I got on eBay some more today, pushed in and held in one of the presets, turned the tuning  back and forth a little, then I felt something "grab". Now all 5 presets function again, YAY! :D http://www.ebay.com/itm/261308107895?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
