Just filled my tank for the first time and.....

I thought my tank was 21 gallons, The needle was just on the far right side of the red, and I was only able to put just under 15 gallons in. Either my gage is WAY off, or my tank is not that big.

Mine's been doing this since I lowered it.  I don't know if it's related, but it seems to fill better if I'm on a tilt toward the left side.

Better look at the IVR  (Instrument Voltage Regulator) as well.  It controls the fuel and temp gauge voltage (as a general description).

The other thread I linked about this, referenced the full digital cluster may not have that problem?

Personally i do not care if my gauge or tank reads correctly. Reason being the tank does not keep fuel in it very LONG. One afternoon of cruising and it is EMPTY!!

On a serious side of this. Fuel gauges are something to be desired especially on ones that use LO OHM SWEEPS. Check the CVR for pulses @ The temp sensor to see if it is PULSING or better yet replace it with an electronic one. Other than doing a float test sweep there is not that many things to go wrong. Other than the fact that you should never let the tank go more than a 1/4 empty on any modern car with an in tank pump you are GOLDEN!!!

Ok, so I filled it again last night, it was a hair below half, and the pump stopped at 8.x gal... That's not right, so I looped around to a different pump ,btw, this one was sloped off to the left, and guess what? I was able to put anothe 3.5 gal in :/ Btw, I averaged 16 mpg, grrrr

I always pull in so my filler is on the high side.  I really think that does make a difference.

Foe every new car says this that i have actually read in the owners MANUAL. It says NEVER TOP OFF or run LOWER THAN 1/4. just saying. We had a heated discussion on those LOW fuel warning lights and PUMP FAILURES. Seems like people that always run there tanks low have premature PUMP FAILURES. just saying!!

That's what killed my 90 LS, the fuel pump died. Between that and the TV cable not connected for who knows how long and the body being rusted out, I said it was time to let her go.

I've never burned a pump up honestly. ill sometimes drive around with less then 1/4 for months.

if your.car is running right, you should be able to get at least 25mpg freeway. 25 mpg x 22 gallons = about 550 miles range. theoretically, you should be able to drive for a bit over 9 hours straight on a tank of gas. I've done this a couple of times. without running out of gas, I've squeezed over 650 miles to a tank a couple of times.

city, our cars suck. when I delivered pizza, id average 14 (worst) to 19 (best) generally getting about 15 mpg. 16 mpg probably means you drove little to no freeway.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Neither have I, I got my 90 for free and it was in EXTREMELY rough shape.

650 mi range!? That had to be a 88 3.8.

I've had a 93 Deville 15city/25 hwy mpg. I've also had a 03 Ranger 2wd 3.0 auto, those sucked gas like a 5.0.

nope, 87 5.0 aod.

my cfi v-6's got better city, but worse freeway. had to down shift a lot more on hills.

I really want to fix my speedo so I know how much the t-5 changed mileage. im sure it gets better then the aod, as long as I don't beat on it, and remember to down shift before hitting half throttle.
