Seal spin out!!
Over the years i have come up with repairs that solve tough issues. Seal spin out is something that is common today on certain seals and as usual i have a fix. I do not know if anyone else does it i just wanted to pass it on to those that are interested. The newer seals on modern cars are grooved rubber garter less on some applications and they are flooding the market. Some of these seals have a nasty habit of spinning in the receptacle they are installed in. Chrysler and some foreign cars do this from time to time and some of the high RPM engines i build suffer from it and i have a solution for it. Years back i made plates to retain the cam seals in the dodge engines and shim them so they cant spin out. But some applications you can't do that. Also sometimes fluids will seep by the seal itself. Some use silicone or permitex. Both of these chemicals do nothing for spin out and seal very poorly. But i have something that might interest some readers. I use CRAZY GLUE different from conventional crazy glue but thicker. I coat the grooves with very little crazy glue all around the seal except the last groove closest to the part. Then i tap the seal in, You have to be quick to make it work. Below is a photo of a LS front cover that i installed a seal with the chemical. It insures a tight fit and it not only seals the entire seal to the cover spin out is eliminated. You need a good receiver in the back of the cover to support it a good seal driver Crazy Glue and a fast assembly. Hope some of you like this little trick to not only make a good seal and also prevent a spin out. I also do this on rear main seals. This works great and i wanted to pass it on to those interested in my techniques.
As you can see the glue completely seals the seal to the front cover and fills all the voids and prevents spin out !!
