So we are getting noticed....

I know 302 there are many people that own RAMBLER METROPOLITAN'S  OMNI GLH TURBOS or VW BUSES that will tell me to PISS OFF also. It was for laughs. Not my kind of car.  (I GET IT)  No need to include Chevys in the discussion as you always do. I think you have a real fetish to own a new CAMARO!!! I just chimed in for laughs. I know those cars had a purpose in life just not in my garage. The SHO was a great car no question. But in reality it was NOT A FORD ENGINE. By the way the SHO was De-Tuned for 2 reasons. The FRONT WHEEL DRIVE and Ford did not want it to have more HP than the 302. Now if they installed that engine in a Mustang and tuned it properly different story. They should have installed the engine in a MUSTANG and tuned it to the MAX and blow away all those 302 powered mustangs !! There is something to be said about a V6 That has 220 HP @6200 RPM and by the way that engine could rev to 8500 RPM but FORD limited it to 7000 RPM'S . Once again FORD de-tuned it to not embarrass the famed 302  Fair enough. Thanks

By the way 302 i totally know you always like to tell me to PISS OFF!!! WOW what else is new!!

Hey Tom

I read that somewhere in the 90's...not on the internet.  about the SHO engine...for Ford's failed mid-egine sports car, they where designing in the mid 80's.
Yeah It would have made 300hp at 8000.  Also ford didnt want to deal with the accessories it woul have had to made to survive the rpms...

On the list I have owned TC's, XR7(duh), Escort(dont ask as Im 6'6"), SHO,....I would have liked to own...LTD LX, 86 Capri 5.0 T-tops

Like I said...its a fun read.

A few years ago, i saw an article in one of the Mustang rags. Some feller had slapped a Mustang clip onto an LTD LX, or possibly a fairmont. Was pretty slick, and IIRC he used the 4 eyed style. Double win.

Nahh, I was just givin' Tom a little static, all in good humor, nothing personal. It'll stop here. :)

Yes, as far as a Camaro fetish, I'd love either a '72, or one of the later 80's IROC Z cars. Of course, it's have to end up with an LS engine...but first I need to get some more done to my two main cars right now.

There is a fairly good condition 85 LTD near me. It's got a 3.8 but it's all there. It would be a cool sleeper project. There was an 85 LTD LX for sale near me a few months ago. It had an SEFI conversion with Twisted Wedge heads and a Trick Flow intake. It also had a T5. It looked mint and the guy wanted $10K for it. The car sold in about two weeks.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

Too bad they didn't include the REAL 80's LTD.

Ultimate 80's Sleeper when built. No one ever suspects that car of being fast, no one. :)

+1

I saw that car at Carlisle back around 1998 or so. Very nice car with lots of subtle touches and tweaks that really make that car a one of a kind. I especially liked how he had installed a keyless entry pad into the top of the door. Instead of using the bezel surround, he eliminated it and made the buttons flush with the sheetmetal. Very slick idea.
I couldn't take my eyes off that car and it made me want to go buy a Futura or a Z7 and do the same. Talked to the owner for a bit. Nice guy who was proud of his creation and he didn't seem have a huge ego about it either. I wonder where that car is today?

BTW, nice find on the article Dan.

I once saw a red LTD Wagon with an '86 Mustang front end. That combo is now on my bucket list...

Here's some random Google pics of cars similar to the combo I saw:
