ignition switch wire end connectors January 03, 2013, 10:53:22 AM lookie what i found, not saying the design of the connector is not durable, i am just showing the weak link in its "wrap around" concept.the connector i have shown below can spread open slightly releasing the little tiny locking tab thats suppose to hold it closed. When your grooming wiring in to make things look neat and you happen to bend a conductor coming out off a connector, remember that the tang of the component can put presure on the wire connector and breake the lock tab.this just might be the root cause for heat showing up on the ignition switch ,, loose connection...if the "BOX" or "wrap around" design is compromised due to tugging or bending of a wire ect, the wire end itself could open up and make a loose connection.the design has a built in locking tab and i can see under a magnifying glass that in the process of making the connector from the factory, there are indications the tab is either cad welded or somehow metalically welded. 50% of the connectors i inspected opened up very easy , the others were strong and had no issues. I suppose this is a hit or miss issue but i was very surprised to find what i did.for the ign sw connectors, there is a lot of play in the housing the wire end snaps into so this could cause you to introduce a break on the locking tab if your adjusting wiring ect .. so be careful.i replaced this wire end because the part i show slightly bent,, well,,, it just broke right off like it was holding on by a thread.
