How to repair a bad concrete pour.

It's been a couple months since the last update.

A few things have been accomplished since then:  The walls have been painted with a statin grey paint, the lighting & electrical is complete and the windows have all been replaced, insulated and trimmed out.

Things from there were snagged while it was decided how best to fix the "rolling" concrete floor.  This is one way to do it.

First:  A cement saw is used to cut it up in manageable sizes.  Then a skid loader comes in with fork lift tines and takes it all away!

Though this was quite a project, the tear out was completed on Wednesday, the prep on Thursday and the new floor on Friday (the finished floor pics will come next week).

This expense was covered by the contractor and he was willing to do what ever I wanted to get it fixed.  The only draw back has been the time...
The biggest delay were the frost laws in Michigan.  These are load restrictions which keep heavy loads off the roads until the frost is out of the ground.  This means from February 11 to April 11 nothing could be done.

Here it is back to bare ground.

Starting again

This time I chose the option of adding 2" of foam insulation under the slab, hoping to minimize the cold wicking through the concrete.

That sucks! Are they redoing the entire floor, or just the high sections?

nvm, newest pics answered that

Here's an exterior shot.  The gutters are up and the exterior light fixtures are in place.

Check out the MONDO exterior electical outlet guards at each corner.  Those things are not only ugly, but the one by the side door probably has a pretty fininte life.  It won't take long before it's broken.

You can pan back to the first post to get a better comparison for the before and after.

As the weather warms, it will get painted.

Wow, that sucks.  What exactly was the problem and what caused it??

A combination of things:  Cold weather, a "new" chemical to keep it from freezing that made the concrete really stiff, a tight & enclosed space, too few workers (only two) and they didn't do concrete regularly.  It's not that they didn't bust their ass to save it, it just got away from them.

I've heard the horror stories of this happening and now witnessed it first hand.  Working with someone reputable really helps.  Thankfully it's taken care of.

Here is how the floor turned out.

Cars are home!

Just about 6 months late.  The cars are home.  There is still work to do, getting the place outfitted, but it's 95% complete.
