2.3 L turbo HELP NEEDED!

i have a 1988 thunderbird turbocoupe, im having turbo difficulties, well not exactly the turbo but ill get on with my story.
anyone who's had experiance with a turbocoupe will no this little trick, there is a black circular object located underneath the intercooler on the passenger fender, that has a house connected into it from the turbo, it manages the (PSI) of the turbo, its a handicap that slows your car down. well i took it off and sure enough  there's a hole in the other end, so i took a 72 mm holyjet plug into the end, take it for a test drive and WOW i gained 6 psi ( i went from 10-16). so i thought if i get a 60 mm jet for the end ill get MORE PSI!..so i went out today got a 60mm jet and cut off 1 inch of house were the 72 jet was, put the 60 in and took it for a drive ready for the best. then hit it in 2nd and 13 PSI!?!!?...does anyone know what is wrong or have any tips? mabey the house is cracked and leaking air but i took a close excpection and it appears to be ok.....

New to turbos I take it? (Almost have to be if you're considering ATR for anything...)

Is your car an auto?

That "black circular object" is the factory boost control solenoid...All it is is a bleed orifice regulator to the boost signal from the turbo to the waste gate actuator(WGA).  The reason you lost boost going from the 72 jet to the 60 is that the hole on the 60 is smaller, which bleeds less boost signal, thus allowing more signal to the WGA and having it open sooner.

First...ditch the factory BCS.  Pay a visit to Gillis Valve Site and get yourself a manual bost controller and do something better than the bleed valve.

Also, do yourself a favor and pay a visit to TurboFord and do some reading of the vast amount of info to be had there on the 2.3T.
