Belt Tensioner '88 T Bird May 08, 2005, 09:33:01 PM I was working underneath the engine and noted this. I had just replaced the 2 belts a few months ago--so they are both new. This tensioner pictured works the AC compressor belt. It seems to suggest that the belt is at the end of the operating range? Or can someone explain these marks? The other tensioner near the Alternator (for the alternator belt) shows its mark well beyond this one--which I would expect for a new belt? Or am I misreading something here? Quote Selected
Re: Belt Tensioner '88 T Bird Reply #1 – May 08, 2005, 09:45:22 PM Is that the '88 V6 or something?I ask because the tensioner is backwards of both of my 5.0s. This confused me enough that I had to go double-check. :p Quote Selected
Re: Belt Tensioner '88 T Bird Reply #2 – May 08, 2005, 11:23:43 PM Oh, Yes this is a V-6 3.8. The marks as I see it are = the large area is representative of the operating range and the 2 larger hash marks on the left of that suggest out of range?? Of course, I really have never seen any explanation on this tensioner subject--so I really do not know if I even have a clue as to what I am speaking of here! I was thinking (by deduction) that if the belt is new and the tensioner is showing this reading--maybe the tensioner is wearing out? I have had sporadic Alternator light warning blips--usually at acceleration moments in the past. Quote Selected
