My parts are in new cam goes in tomorrow...

Anyone have any tips. I never installed a cam before. I got a trickflow #1 cam and I'll be running edelbrock 6037's (1.90/1.60) with a cobra intake, pro-m and 24# injectors..

Here's a couple of pics..

Make sure to lube the cam up plenty before install
Install the cam using a long bolt and be very careful not to scratch the bearings
Torque the cam thrust plate to the proper specs

And enjoy!!

but whatever you do.. DO!! NOT!! USE!! CAM!! BRAKE!! IN!! LUBE!!!!!!
:nono: :nono: :nono:
you will destory that cam...

use permatex engine assembly lube

or lots of motor oil.. ;)

USE THIS !!!;)

NOT THIS!!:nono: :nono:

the lube above is for old flat tappit cams and is a gritty paste.. and is used for break in  DO NOT USE!!!

your cam does'nt need to be brokein just well lubed..

use the permatex 81950 on all cam suffices.. ie lobes and cam bearing suffices

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Yeah,, i think that red stuff is called "red lithium" but i think im out of it.  pretty sticky stuff.  80w90 oil will be ok also.

I insert a sharpend wooden dowel on the cam freeze plug end of the engine block and push it up against the cam towards the front.

i push the cam into the block but use the dowel to help lift and guide the cam through the series of journals and prevent lobes from bumping cam bearings.

Break in the cam to temper the tips of the soft lobes.

good luck finding a new cam freeze plug,, i played hell trying to but gave up cause i needed one now! I ended up reflairing out my old one and tapping it in with some silicone.  careful about how far you seat it or your cam wont have the proper thrust room to move.

just eyeball the oil port on the rear cam journal and dont block it off partially.

nevermind,, your block is still in, pics just finished downloading while i was typing.  i hate dial up,,,,,,,current connection is 21.6
