How is power mirro switch and the radio tied into each other????

If it turn the head unit up over "30".....it cuts the sound. If it wiggle the power mirror switch it will come back on. If it moving the right side mirror, the sound stops until i release the switch.

The radio itself doesn't shut off......there is just no sound.  The unit was installed by Circuit City about 2 years ago, but it had the original speakers in it, so it was impossible to turn it up to "30". NOW that it has 6 new speakers....its become a issue.

What's puzzling me is......how the power mirrors tie into the sound system? The car had the factory Premium Sound (the switch no longer is part of the system from what I can tell).

Does anyone have a wiring diagram of the power mirror and the sound system???

The car is 1984 Elan 5.0. The unit is a JVC with HD radio.

JVC KD-HDR30 or KD-HDR30A?

I installed one of those into my car myself, and no part of the mirror switch should be tied into that head unit.

Does it still have the factory eq?

If not, then you may have wires crossed in your door. Do ALL the speakers shut off at once? And only higher than exactly 30?

Being it was installed by CC, I'd bet anything was possible, most likely you're going to have to pull it and check the hookup... Unfortunately I don't have a '84 EVTM to be able to check wiring, maybe someone else will have one...

Maybe a poor ground? Maybe when you have volume up and try to move mirrors it is to much for a poor ground? Long shot I know, but it is the only thing that comes to mind.

That actually makes a lot of sense. It is possible that instead of grounding it to the body, they just spliced the unit's ground into another ground wire, and its too much current for it to carry.

JVC KD-HDR30

It doesn't have a factory eq.....only the factory premium sound on/off switch and the amp up high in the dash.

Like you said...being that CC did the work.........anything is possible.

i know that when i started having gremlin problems in my car, it affected the digital speedo readout, power mirror controls and radio.  Everyone has been telling me it is the ignition switch that effects them all.

It's all speculation, just pull off the door panel and check it out. It will probably jump right out at ya :)

Did this just start, or has it been happening all along? (I would then ask, why didn't you take it back to the installer with a firm "wtf")

I would bet they did something to the mirror wiring in conjunction with the door speaker in the same door. Maybe, as I think was mentioned, they used the mirror ground as a common for the speaker, and when you run it up to 30 it puts enough power to the mirror's motor coil to trip the amp protection in the head unit.

CC is not longer as far as i know, and he said when it was installed he could not turn it up to 30, because of bad speakers.

just download the EVTM in my link below... it will be pretty close if not mostly dead on to your radio ckt,, and likely a perfect match for your power mirrors.

you now have diagrams.

circuit city guys probably just found any old hot wire and H-tapped into it.
