The nessesary, but hated.

Well we have all had those things that we don't want to do to our cars but is needed. Or maybe we want it but we have to wait too long to get it. So what was/is your most hated thing about building your car?

Lol mine is right now. Waiting to get enough money saved up to get my engine a complete clean up. Lol the cylinder walls are officially not needing any work, but there is about 1/4 inch of sludge everywhere! :(

Right now I'm putting off two things:

1.) I need to jerk the driveshaft off and send it in to get balanced.
2.) Need to swap out to a new oil pan.  My oil pan is leaking around the drain plug.  Its a long story but I pulled the motor to refresh and do the HO swap...then once everything was back in and I changed the oil, the threads broke in the pan.  I made a redneck "patch" and welded it to the pan.  While welding I burned a tiny hole that I then jb welded.  To make a long story short, my redneck temporary fix is starting to leak.

The main reason I have not attempted to fix these items is $$$$.  I am in the process of buying the house I have been renting off my cousin for the last 3 yrs, and I really don't have any money to spend on the car right now.

People that try to sell these cars for blue book wrecked and in overall bad condition.

I hate the fan setup. I have thought about going to an electric fan, only because of how hard it is to get the fan on and back off. Another thing is time to get it fixed. I would very much like to do my oilpan gasket. I had a timing chain cover gasket go out on me. After doing the timing chain I had to redo the front of the oil pan gasket and didn't do it quite right. Would love to do a rear main and fix some of the vacuum lines that are broken.

All said though, been one of the most reliable 20+ year old cars that you can drive. I've been driving 150+ miles a day for the last 4 months. I have only had to do the yoke and one u-joint. Other then that, I have only had a day or two's down time with the car including my wreck. And I was able to push all of that till the weekend.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

My most-hated thing is that I set a deadline to have it on the road, licensed, insured, legal, etc, by June 1st of this year...or it's going to be for sale.

Seeing that I have 26 days left, and still a lot to do....

Doubt I'll sell it, but I was looking forward to a summer of fun with it before the kids take the rest of the tiny amount of free time that I DO have.

Money, time, and motivation. Too bad they're never in abundance all at the same goded time. :punchballs::hick:

I can't stand when I take an interest in a car that I am trying to get the money for, it gets sold. It makes me lose interest in trying again.

BTW, I had a 1988 T-Bird Sport way back when. I found out that it was totalled shortly after trading it in. It still has the ignition switch recall to date.

Special thanx to EricCoolCats for showing me to this site.

the worst part of my build has been working outside and trying to hunt down parts to make the thing run.  then the city coming and saying move it or we will take it and send you a bill right when I am to the point of almost having it done.  so now its sitting in storage where I can't do much with it :(

I remember changing out the 5.0 oil pump in the convertible back in '99 with no electricity, by flashlight, on ramps. The only saving grace was that it was inside a garage with a cement floor. The rest of the ordeal sucked big time. Because there wasn't enough light (flashlights were dying at that point), I couldn't see very well to get the oil pump driveshaft back in correctly, and it frustrated me, so I installed it by feel alone without the catch just to get it done. To this day the distributor is a tooth or two off, and if I remove it...PING goes the driveshaft into the pan.

So yeah...I'd have to say that's about the piest job that I have to look forward to.

But combined with a dragging rear caliper, a mysterious driveline imbalance, and the never-quite-correct AOD shifting, it's just one of many issues on that car.

shiznit! I thought someone did all your work?. Is that the white one? It's a bitch to change pumps in the car, light or no light.

Funny, I did the same thing. Only problem is, my car is in pieces 700 miles away. So even if I wanted to sell it... I can't. I have a new plan though... if this doesn't work it's a gonner.
