Batt light 84 XR7

So I picked up some new plug wires for the car tonight and put them on, car starts and runs better but the battery light is on now!:punchballs:

While I was doing the wires I noticed the battery clamps were not that tight so I snugged them up, thats the only things I touched while under the hood. After noticing the battery light I went and checked the 3 wires on the alt, the 3-way connector, voltage reg plug, and I replaced the battery post clamps with a new pair as the old bolt on ones were pretty crusty (dont worry, I'll fix it properly soon) Still the battery light stays on.

I checked the battery voltage and its around 13v key off, and 14.6v idling at the battery clamps and the same on the posts.

WTF? :disappoin

Maybe the car is pissed off that I cant do the exhaust this pay day :sorry:

It was not that long ago I replaced the starter selenoid on the fenderwell and I had inadvertantly left one of the multiple ring terminals off which caused my alternator light to stay on. I put it back in place and the problem disappeared. I dunno if that will help but it's something to look for.

It's not clear to me whether you still have the 1G alt in your 84 XR7.

The good news is, your alt is turning on and has good voltage output to the battery.
There is a white/black wire from the alt stator terminal to the "S" terminal of the regulator. This should have 7 volts when the alt is running and should cause the regulator to turn off the battery light.

Thanks, I'm just about to head out and check it over again. The car is all stock old man single owner car so I'm sure it's the 1G.

W00T! "S" wire broke at the connector on the alternator, shrink tubing was holding it together pretty good, new ring terminal and I'm good ta go! Power wire from the alt to the starter relay had a wire nut holding it together so I crimped and shrink tubed it, car should be happier now!

Thanks
