aftermarket amp question

Is it possible to install a better aftermarket amp (premium sound car, no EQ), and still retain the stock factory head unit?

It is if you get one with speaker inputs(not only outputs but inputs as well).
They function as an rca input as factory decks do not have them.
It will only sound as good as the voltage that the factory deck will provide through the speaker wires(which will not be much 1/4 volt perhaps).
But to answer your question yes it can be easily done.
P.S. just thought of another way,you can purchase a line convertor if your amp does not have speaker inputs,it will have speaker ins and rca outs.

A better current head unit replacement will sound better than adding an aftermarket amp to the stock system. That and it would at least be updated.

I know this may sound crazy, but I like the way the factory head units look in the car, the aftermarkets "seem out of place."

Also the stock one keeps from drawing attention from sticky fingered sleuths.

Why doesnt somebody make a stock faced headunit with updated internals?

your sound quality is only as good as the signal from the reciever. i'd look for something like http://http://www.vintagevibes.net/Stereos/secretaudio.htm.
