83 steering column November 23, 2009, 02:19:28 PM I need a good working steering column for my 83. The one that's in it is all jacked up and the wheel moves up and down without even pushing in the tilt lever. It'd be a bonus if it had good turn signal stalk on it since mine is broken. Please let me know how much shipped to 45036.Thanks,Rob Quote Selected
83 steering column Reply #2 – November 25, 2009, 09:42:10 PM Do you have a Pull-A-Part or U-Pull-It salvage yard near you? There are numerous Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models built from 1978 that share the same steering column. They sell them at very reasonable prices. Quote Selected
83 steering column Reply #3 – November 26, 2009, 08:02:37 PM Do you know which models share the same column so I can look? I didn't even know if the newer fox birds were the same. I know there are several differences, like the horn for mine being on the turn signal stalk instead of the center of the steering wheel. I didn't know if they would interchange or if the wiring and other stuff was too different. Thanks,Rob Quote Selected
83 steering column Reply #4 – November 27, 2009, 12:20:27 AM I have one out of an 87-88 turbo coupe, not sure if that would help though. Quote Selected

83 steering column Reply #6 – November 27, 2009, 01:07:57 AM For a true swap in, your going to have to find one from a car that has all of the same options. In my old 86, I swapped on from a 85 and it worked fine, but the wipers plug and everything else was different. In the same car I swapped to a 87 tc on, and added the shift colum linkage. It ended up jamming up and I broke the shifter off when I got stuck in some snow one day. If it wasn't for that, I'd still have the car.Basically, if it were me, I would only get one from a 83-84 with the exact same options, or be willing to do some work to make it work 100%. I'm not against modifying stuff to make it work, but I want to make sure it could be done relatively simply. I'll have to see what's in the pick-n-pulls around here. The yard I usually go to only had one 87-88 TC and it was pretty well raped by people removing parts in a no so gentle manner.-Rob Quote Selected

What options does your colum have?It is a tilt wheel with column shift. It also has cruise control, but it doesn't work so I don't care if the new column has it or not. What kind of $$$ are you guys wanting shipped to 45036? I don't have a lot of expendable cash right now, I'm just trying to make sure the car is safe to drive. Thanks,Rob Quote Selected
