Carpet Dyes

I've been thinking alot about this for awhile now, But i've never done any kind of work with dyes (except for maybe easter eggs :giggle:).

What i want to do is check the local yards for the nicest Carpet i can find, Then thoroughly clean it~And Dye it Black.

I guess what i really need to know is what is the best way to go about doing the dying process on a budget, And still get the best results i can out of it.

It looks like i could go Aerosol or a Concentrate (Rit).
Any pros or cons between these from experience?

I'm leaning towards the RIT concentrate>scrub in direction as the spray on seems like it might turn out too stiff or gloppy.

But another big concern is how well would either of these hold up over time?

Any info appreciated.

I know, I know...
I need to stop asking so many questions and get out there and try it for myself.

I've dyed the floormats in both of my Lincolns.  I used a spray can (don't remember the brand, but I'll check).  I used light coats and a stiff brush between coats to keep them from getting stiff.  They looked great when I was done.

When I started, both sets were in good shape but faded.  Its been a couple of years and the titanium mats have held up very well, but the black mats are fading again just on the drivers mat where my foot rests (and where it was originally faded).

Based on my results, I don't think I try a color change with the spray method, but maybe the product I used wasn't the best.

I'll be dying the original carpet in my Cougar in the next couple of weeks with Colorbond dye.  Its received good reviews so I'm anxious to see how it turns out.:)
