If I have to rebuild a diff, then yes. If I find a good one I may settle for a 3.0X just to smack it in and try it out. depends on what I find and in what condition. I may call Fox Salvage and see what they have and for how much.

Machinist called. I need a couple of guides and a set of shims to match my springs. Doh!

I ordered an adjustable voltage regulator from a RC and robotics joint in Akron to use as an Instrument Voltage Regulator. (My little gauges are erratic as hell.) The specs look good, and it was 17.00 shipped. We'll see how it works out. The plan is to adjust it so the fuel gauge reads right and then take note of what 'normal is on the rest of 'em. They should be at least marginally useful then.

I also placed a Rockauto order for a couple of Moog balljoints. Gonna swap those in and replace tie rod ends, install Monroe Sensatracks, new upper mountings and rack bushings while it's apart for heads.

I didn't see any real wear on that stuff when I first got the car together, and was kinda itchin' to get it on the road. Now I have a couple clunky-thumpy noises going over bumps and the steering wanders..... so it's time.

The gauges have always bugged me. I can't see spending $40 on a Taiwan copy of the original if I can improve it some functionally for less.

The parts don't get here for a few days, so once I get my trailer finished tomorrow  (5x10 deal that someone gave me and I am pressing into service since I traded the Avalanche) I may just finalize the center console around the shifter and glue down the dash top. It's just been jiggling around up there for all this time.

Trailer is 'almost' done. I have to re-do the chains... I extended the tongue and now the chains either drag or bind.  Gotta move them closer to the hitch.

I did take time to re-read this thread. It's easy to forget just how much went into this project.

I won't be happy until I get it on a dyno, to the track, and get my mileage goals out of it.

Projects are never really finished, but its nice to finally enjoy all the hard work that went into one.  Get those heads installed and enjoy.

I have a line on a SN-95 3.08 with calipers and rotors. My plan is to swap in a spare set of TC axles to it and stay 4-lug for now until I use up my (new) tires and brakes a bit. Then I can save for 17"wheels and tires with a set of hardened 5 lug axles and Lincoln front rotors.

It's getting too hard to get good 4-lug axles in TC length at a decent price it seems.

Heads aren't back yet but ball joints came in and I rented the press.

Side one almost done. I had some issues that needed extra time, and did some research along the way. The new struts came without shims so I had to work that out, and the strut mounts both had a piece missing that goes on the very bottom... I re-used the top PRC mount for that and got some Autozone dust covers and rebound stops to finish that off. Painted rotor shields with hi-temp black and put some black paint on the lower A-arm to make it pretty again.

Heads are done, I'll get those tomorrow. I have to change the rack yet and do the other side. I do have the strut assembled for that already. Still to do are the new sway bay bushings. I did the outer links on those already.

OH.  The reman rack I got had a set of Mustang 2 rack mount bushings with it. ?????? I didn't know what they were for at first, but figured it out through a search on the web. Luckily I had ordered some Moog replacements a while back, so I'm good to go.

The Autozone ball joint press didn't have just the right size sleeve to fit the bottom of the Tbird ball joint to press it back in.  I improvised with an old bearing race from something (I'm not sure what, but it fit!) and got through it.

AAAAARGH! Rusted bolt on drivers side rack mount. It's soaking in PB Blaster now. BFH didn't even budge it. Other side breezed right out.

Both plates that hold the upper nuts on the sway bar are broken. I got one side off with a 16MM socket after chipping away the remaining plastic retainer. PLASTIC??? REALLY???

Gonna make a searchable on the sway bar tip.

Helpful tip for the day. When you go after sway bar bushings,

1. put car on jackstands

2. Loosen mount bolts on one side

3. Put jack on opposite lower A-arm and jack up a couple inches

This will put slack in the side you are replacing and you can just slide the old one off and the new one on.

BFH 1..... Rusted bolt 0. BFH wins!!! Fought through the rusty pinch connection and with the old rack off I can hopefully say the worst is behind me on this episode.

I knocked in new inner bearings since I had used some Mexico bearings when I assembled it initially. Put in the Timken set5. Ready to put the rack back in, take it for a quick ride before I start tearing it down for the heads.

A couple pics from the camera.

The free trailer. I have a tad over $150.00 in it now.

I moved the chains more forward closer to the hitch because I extended the front a couple of feet.

Buttoned up the rack, eyeballed the toe (one tie rod was stuck and my measurement was way off when I put that side on) and took it down the road.

No more twitchy steering! There is more effort required to turn the wheel with the car running now. I may take out the restrictor fitting I installed in the high pressure line. Or not, we'll see.

The front definitely feels more solid. I was able to get a little movement on the bolts when tightening the rearmost subframe attachments. I think that helped, too.

Now that the front is so tight I'm noticing noises from the rear of the car I never did before! When I change gears I'll definitely replace all the bushings back there, too.

Well, now for an alignment and tear into the engine top-end!

Nice job. I replaced the rack in my Thunderbird and noticed a big difference.
