It's coming along nicely. Nice work.

Thank you, sir!

I bolted on the first piece! I wanted to be sure that the fuel door was a good match, so I put it on.

I am now officially re-assembling the car.

Hood and trunk came out REALLY nice after a scuff and buff. I intend to get those back on today with the help of my son. In the meantime I rounded up all the moldings so I can prep them for paint.

Got the hood and trunk lid on, and had to set the fenders and upper nose in place just to get a feel for it.

Nice to see everything one color!

flylear!  I have been out of town for a few days and this is what I have to come back too!!!!  I'm really excited for you.  The paint looks amazing!

The hood and trunk look smooth as glass.  You can see the wrinkle reflection of the tarp walls in the standalone trunk picture.

Simply beautiful!  Wonderful job.

I knew you'd like it.  LOL  It has some texture to the clear, I haven't sanded it absolutely flat. I just took out any dirt pips and took down the couple of dry spots I noticed.

That kind of finish is what I have been after. I would have block sanded the primer one more time with 600 if I was serious about getting a dead flat final product. For this project I just wanted the bodywork straight and a paint job with good prep that addressed any rusty areas. Mission accomplished!

I've had my head down on this for so long that it is almost a shock to be at this point. Hopefully I can get some road time in this year before the weather turns py. I'm thinking of getting a pair of snow tires and mounting them on some spare snowflakes so I can drive it on all but the worst days. I plan to use some good undercoating on the undercarriage to stave off the corrosion. I plan to USE this sucker!

It will take longer to assemble than I'd like since the car came to me in boxes. Not only are there parts from this car, but from 2-3 other TC's the PO took apart plus some JY parts he acquired.  I'll be wasting time searching for hardware and parts hiding in this mass of stacked boxes. (Example, I spent 45 minutes rounding up 2 hood hinges and 5 bolts yesterday to mount the hood.) Once I go through the parts a couple of times I'll start to remember what is where and it should go faster.  At least a lot of the stuff is bagged and labelled.

The other challenge is that I didn't take it all apart to know how it goes together. I do have the Ford shop manuals and EVTM to guide me, but studying everything as I do it takes some time.

At least it'll be nice to shift gears from the painting. MAN I am sick of sanding!

It's going to be a fun car to have as a nice driver.  I just can't bring myself to drive mine again on nasty roads.  Winters have killed 2 Foxes for me around here, and the '83 could've gone that way as well had I not stopped using it in the winter.

Too bad you're not closer, I could help you turn wrenches and you could help me fix body panels. :p

Salt is a bitch to be sure. I am hoping to get 6 good years out of it. This car (and the TR7) are what I will have instead of a new car.

Yeah, there's you and a bunch of others on here I'd like to hang with in the garage. It'd be lots more fun than working alone all the time.

I ended up sanding and buffing a lot more than I originally thought I would. I just kept wanting it to look better and better. At last it is completed. It looks pretty fine at this point. I did burn an edge with the buffer under the drivers side mirror, but it isn't bad and it's at least in a place that won't be too noticeable.

Otherwise I cleaned, lubed and installed the trunk lock and sandblasted, painted and installed the emergency hood latch. Next is to unbolt the fenders to finish behind them before the final fit and install.

In sunshine the car looks and feels like it was dipped in plastic. Pretty cool.

COMPLETED!  Really?!  Is it ever really completed?  :)  Oh, your paint job is completed.  NO MORE SANDING!!!!  So in that sense it IS completed.  Congratulations!

Now the fun begins...  Putting things back together is not all bad.  At least you see progress quicker.

OK, yeah. You got me.:shakeass:

I am just happy to be done freaking sanding already. :D

Well, except for the quarter windows and side moldings, that is. I  am also going to tape off for spraying the chip-guard stuff on below the side moldings.

I need to undercoat as well, so I won't be getting it put back together tomorrow.

I worked a bit on her today. I thought I had a set of nice taillights, but in truth I have 3 nice passengers side ones. :shakehead

I took apart the two driver's side lights and made one good one with the parts.  I didn't go so far as to pry off the louvers. It is a bit dirty in there, so maybe I'll yank them apart one day in the future when I get a spare. I didn't want to risk breaking my only good piece, so I didn't go any farther.

I also took some time fitting the trunk lid and hood up nicely, after which I rounded up all the rubber seals. I picked the best door seals out and put those on.

Same way with the side mirrors. The driver's side mirror I was originally going to use had lots of scratches in the glass part, so I went into the spare parts to get a nice one. It took an hour to clean and detail the mirrors, but they look like new.

I also finished the other quarter window outer rubber trim. I ended up sanding and painting 3 times to get the desired finish. While I was at it I touched up a couple of spots on the first one. They came out pretty nice in the end.

Exciting to have the 1/4 windows done and looking nice, mirrors, taillights, hood, trunk.  You will be done with the exterior in no time!

Had to replace the other wheel bearing on the Chevy and get new tires on.

I rounded up a matching lock set for doors and ignition. Had to swap out the ignition in the car with another column to do it. Went everywhere looking for some outer door hardware and struck out. I ended up buying it at Fastenal, but had to get 50 bolts.  I'll use them eventually I guess.

Planning a few hours of assembly time today.

In the meantime:
