They only made 2200 or so

Uh...no... Try about 45,000 from 85-89.

There were only about 28,000 of the Scorpios brought over in the 2 years of their run.

I have always wanted an XR4Ti, but I tend to shy away from the turbo 2.3 after owning one.

Uh oh, them's be fightin' words 'round here.

Not really. I agree with cougarcragar. Been there, done that.
It's Gumby's fault.

Uh...yes. Now granted I didnt specify my 89 but this is from Hemmings.  Add in the manual and it's even less.

http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/2008/08/01/hmn_feature24.html

"All of the good press, whether it was later rescinded or not, helped the XR4Ti get off to a strong start: nearly 26,000 units in its first two years in the States. Those numbers came close to Ford's intended sales goals of 15,000 units per year. Only the most minor physical changes came--changing wheels, the biplane rear spoiler, and painting the lower cladding to match the body--and sales started to droop: 7,300 in 1987, fewer than 6,300 in 1988, and less than half that number in 1989. A total of 42,464 XR4Tis made it across the ocean from 1985 to 1989."

Nice. A friend of mine once had an '85 xr4ti. Hellaciously fast car, though you need to watch the temp. His always ran hot (could make the exhaust manifolds glow cherry red), and his tranny caught fire a couple of times. Of course, he always drove it to its limit and he used to grenade turbos every once in a while.

If you know the numbers, then why be condescending when 2200 was near enough correct?
Anyway, thanks for the responses. Those guys have some hellacious 2.3T's over at the Mercur club if anyone's interested.  They have some stuff i havent seen here.

You didn't clarify your initial statement with a model year, thus the "correction" of the production numbers.  There's SOOO much mis-information floating around about these cars that there is no need to add to it.

The 89's are the oddball year.  They have a slightly different cooling system layout, which makes it harder to find some parts (hoses, etc).

Godfrey is running a TT 3.0 Duratech in his car now IIRC.

Only 800 dealers signed up to sell them because Ford mis-marketed the brand and tried to sell them through L-M dealerships.  Then they never supported them.

Had they been built "properly", instead of how they were built (read: So as to not upstage their retarded cousin, the 5.0 Mustang), they would have run rings around the Mustangs.  The Scorpio (Granada overseas) was by far and away a better car than the Taurus ever was.

The more i read,  the more i dont understand why Ford does stupid things like that. Take the Focus.  I drove a Euro focus and loved it so i bought an American version and it was the biggest POS i've ever owned.  Imagine if Ford brought Cosworth over here to pimp up their line-up.  They'd put Saleen and Rousch to shame i bet.

BTW i wonder what he did with that intake...Hmmmm.

I was always more impressed with my buddy's Scorpio than even my 91 SHO. Sure my SHO was fast but the Merkur was quick enough in it's own respect and looked different while doing it. There is a guy who lives in my town that has a Scorpio on one side of town and a woman with an XR4Ti on the other, and I live in a small town so that suprises me.
