The Global Economic Downturn just hit Goshen

I was minimised yesterday. I'm still here at work finishing up the project I'm working on, but I've got two weeks left as of yesterday. It's not a shock, since I haven't had any work for nearly six months. There aren't enough jobs to keep one of us detailers going right now, let alone the two of us. The other guy, Rob, has been here longer than me and is honestly the best choice to keep here. He's much more suited to Rebar Detailing (I personally despise the work). Most of our detailing work is for companies in the US who contract out the work to us. We get their structural drawings, make placing drawings, and send them barlists so they can fabricate everything down there. The problem with that is when construction nearly halts in the States, my jobs stop coming in.

I'm not disappointed either. Between EI, and not having to pay for child care for two kids two days out of the week, there'll only be about $100 difference in what I bring home, per month. I have no issues with using EI either, since it's my money to begin with and I give it to them for just such a time. Factor in that my wife can pick up two extra shifts, and we'll be fine. I can start looking for another drafting job in the area, and in the mean time actually have time to work on the T-bird this summer. More time with the kids for a month or two. I might even go back to school in the fall, if I'm not back to work by then. Play a lot more music, look into apprenticing under my sister-in-law to become an electrician. This is actually creating a lot of opportunities for me right now.

Carmen, we're still coming up on Saturday to pick those lenses up. The cash I put aside for the car is still for the car.

Sorry to hear about your job, but glad to see your attitude about it. Sometimes a person just needs some time off anyway, and now you're able to devote some more time to family (and Thunderbird).

Your post reminds me, I still haven't given you directions...

Sorry to hear of the job loss, but I commend your attitude...

Some jobs are better suited to us than others, but that electricians apprenticeship may be a good choice... Even when new work is scarce, repairs and upgrades are usually still out there...

EI is for times like these. I would have no problem taking it in your situation. There are too many people that abuse the system for you not to take what you actually worked for to have as security.

You have things figured out so I hope everything goes as planned. Kids going to do ok without the Child Support? I know sometimes all it is extra money in that parents pocket they dont really need.

I think you may have misunderstood Oldraven, DVP. He is still happily married and supports his kids directly by being their dad. He meant he was going to save a bit of money by not having to send them to a sitter while he and his wife worked.

Exactly. Right now, I work four tens and Angela works wed-fri. We pay a sitter for two days and I get them on Fridays. Now we can save all of that money, though we may still send Coira in to pre-school one day a week. She was getting pretty excited about it (it's the place my sister works, where she oversees the different programmes for the different age groups) and I don't think I've got the heart to tell her she can't go now.

Thanks for the support guys. I'm rolling with it (I bitch and moan about everything else. Why not? ;) ), though there's always uncertainty when you don't officially have a workplace. Now if only business would pick up for our company, I wouldn't have to worry about getting another job. One thing I know for sure is that we'll be alright.
