Enamel paint opinions ??

My wife works with a guy that has a shop on the side to do body work and paint, and has a very good reputation with other friends of hers. He has priced painting my Cougar, and it is very tempting, but he wants to use Enamel paint. Anyone had dealings with this before? Any opinions??

Don't use enamel man,yea it's cheap but there's nothing there to protect the paint.
Base clear is the only way to go.
My wife's topaz was painted in enamel and it now has the most faded finish, can be broght back with wax put once you wash it  a few times it reverts back to it's faded state.
Moral:stay away from enamel finishes unless your painting it for a quick sale.

I kept telling myself to stay away, but it was worth the thought. I don't want to deplete my fund I set aside for the car just yet, so I will stick it out for better paint later.

If your car is black or white, then it has enamel from the factory....those weren't base/clear colors until the early 1990's. So you'd be safe. Otherwise you do have base/clear and should definitely get that kind of paint again.
