2.3 rough idle

The engine will idle fine, then suddenly, it will start to idle rough. It jumps from 500 rpms up to 1000 then back down again. Then...it will idle perfect again. It has died a couple of times but will start up immediately...

It has new plugs, wires, rotar, cap, timing set, checked for vacspooge leaks...found one...

I thought it (rough idle) was because the engine wasn't reaching the, "closed loop" stage so I replaced the thermostat as the old one was stuck open and replaced the coolant temp. sensor. The temp gauge will come up just past the bottom line where it is the low normal zone.

Would it idle rough sparatically because the TPS is going bad?

check your tps voltage (should be in the range of 0.97v) and also remove your IAC and clean it or replace. its most likely your IAC.
