I'm not watching it, but I can hear 2 or 3 others in the office who are.

I have no feelings one way or another about the guy, he's a politician.  At least he's not W.

My only beef is "technically" he's the first minority president.  He's just as "white" as he is "black".  Honestly is a good representation of what America is actually.

Exactly. The importance of his being 'Black' (though not Black enough?) is that the racial divide is dwindling. So if that's the big deal, hopefully people realise that this means it's time to stop calling him a 'Black' President, and let him stand on his own merit. When people ignore his ethnicity, then he and ever other person fighting for civil rights has finally seen success.

I understand the excitement, and by all means celebrate, but the time will come to drop it. He's got to be a great President who happens to be black, not a black President. His colour should be an unimportant detail.

I think I'm gonna judge a man by his actions, rather than by his name.

The outgoing fella did some good, and some bad as well, but that's history now.
It's up to the new guy to try to sort out this shiznit-pile of a mess he was left to inherit, and just because his name seems funny to you, just remember, we could all be walking around, saluting a swastika,, and referring to a king or dictator or some shiznit. Or being gassed or worse because of some small ethnic diversity. (and i'm not at all being judgemental, I'd be one of the first to get it myself.)

The man has a hell of a job ahead of him, personally, if he can do 1/10 of what he promised, we'll be 10 times better off than we were before.
and to quote Forrest Gump: "That's all I have to say about that."

I think of MLK, JFK & RFK & the blood, sweat and tears that it took to get to this moment in history.

I think it's ridiculous that people are so effin happy we have a black president. If we really want to honor the man we honored yesterday, we shouldn't CARE what race Obama is/isn't. Not ONE person should have voted for/against him because of his color.

I just hope people aren't disappointed. I'm wondering if we'll actually see this radical chaaaaaange that's been parroted about endlessly throughout the whole campaign.

And, to be on topic, I'm with Innes 100% on his original post. Well said.

Not surprising that you don't get it.

The media has placed so much emphasis on his race it's unreal.  Just goes to show how many racial issues have yet to be solved in this country.  We've come a long way.  We have still longer to go.

Yup I'll bow out too actually. Seeing as I *was*, indeed, misunderstood in my case, better to just keep the peace. I do NOT have ANY issues with a black president. Or a green or a purple or whatever color president. Sucks that someone thought I do.

No surprise. every political thread goes sour on this board after a certain point.

Anybody who can't see the significance of what happened today, and who would focus ONLY those who might have voted for him just because he is black is looking at today's historical event from a very narrow perspective. Perhaps it's generational as I suspect that people like me near 50 and older who have lived through the some of the darker times in our history might see today's events much differently.

So does anyone agree with me that he's just another NWO puppet? Or am I alone on that one?

Cougar5.0, I'm with the other guys. I think you're seeing a bigot where there isn't one.

BTW, concentrating on his colour is part of the problem. Getting angry about it is a bigger one. Divided is divided, no matter which side you stand on. Ignore the divide and you'll be one people. Pretty simple, really. Then you can get back to Left or Right nit-picking. ;)

I can't be that dismissive of the historical nature of this event. I didn't call or imply that anybody was a bigot, just the desire to ignore the significance of having a black President when even I remember having rocks thrown at my school bus as a child. Nevermind the different water fountains, schools, lynchings & complete lack of representation or even the right to vote in many cases IN MY LIFETIME!

Being dismissive of this history does not imply that someone is a bigot, but knowing the politics of those who are dismissing this historical event is notable IMO. I noted it thusly.

He's not "black"...he's mixed....

It is a big step that a minority president has been elected, I'm just so over the "race" card being played (from both sides).

Like I said, his mixed heritage fits better with the whole "change" thing than clinging to the fact that his father was black...
