What to do

Recently I've inherited my dads 05 Ranger.
I'm undecided on whether to keep it or sell it.
I need some idea of what to use it for if I kept it.
Using it for work would be a problem, because of it's size and lack of 4 wheel drive.

If I don't keep it, I would trade it in with my 03 E-250 and get a newer E-250 for work.
so let me hear your opinions on what I could use it for, keeping in mind I have an E-250, my wife's Lincoln, and my Cougar which would be usable by next summer.

I'm really trying to find a reason for keeping it.
My wife already says she could use it for picking up gardening supplies and things like that, instead of using her car trunk

Here it is getting buried in the last storm.

If I was in your position,I would keep it,for the simple reason it was my fathers.I would imagine it is pretty good on gas ,wich is another good reason to keep it,the low miles, its a Ford, nice color.there that should be enough convincing :D

Unless your going through some tough times financially, i would say save it man, you never know when you will need it, and if you did sell it you would always be pondering on whether you did the right thing or not....could drive a man crazy

A Ranger is kind of useless if you need a full-size truck, especially for work.
It was nice to have around for someone like me to haul some house and car stuff, but they suck to have to drive.  I don't have mine any more for that reason...I hated driving it all the time as a daily, even after I did the 2.3T/T5 swap.  I can borrow a truck just about any time I would need one.

Sentimental value aside, trading it and your current full-size in sounds like the best option.  You have no need for a "toy" truck in your situation.

Yeah, unless you've got a sentimental attachment to it I say trade it. If I were near I'd buy it from you because I live in the boonies and can actualy use a truck for hauling firewood, going hunting, etc. My F-150 has gone away, rusted right before my eyes, so I'm wanting another truck now, and after the high fuel prices of this past summer I'd like something fuel efficient. I know a 2WD, 4-cylinder Ranger is hardly the best thing for hauling firewood, but I wouldn't be putting a cord at a time in it...

...all of which is moot, because you live too far away and there's that whole bringing a US vehicle into Canada thing...

Alright now this is just my opinion, but a friend of mine has a ranger, and its useless as a truck. It doens't have 4 wheel drive, and he picked up a ride on lawn tracker with it and the thing struggled to climb hills. It isn't comfortable at all, not really anyway, and its too small to be a truck.

It's say sell it and use it ot finance your cougar, or put the money away for a rainy day.

Just my opinion though.

I've had two rangers ('88 2.3/5spd and a '97 2.3/5spd) and they were good little trucks.  Cheap to own and had very few problems with either one.  But if you need to haul a lot, pull trailers, etc they are pretty worthless.  And like Chuck W said they are not very exciting daily drivers.  Plus they are uncomfortable if you are very tall.  I'm 6' 3" and drove mine on a 4 hr trip once...as a result I felt like I played in the superbowl that night.

I really did like my '97...it got around good for running errands and stuff.  I usually got around 25-26 mpg combined.  I had to get rid of it because I just have to have 4x4 and a 1/2 ton for towing.  There are times I really miss it though (especially now that I see it driving thru town trashed out by the drunk that bought it).

I guess if your wife needs something to haul stuff with, it would work great for that...plus it never hurts to have a "spare" vehicle around either!  I say keep it!

If you have room for it, keep it. Even if it's not a truck, its a brand new pretend truck. It will come in handy for small things. Like car doors and hoods, which you can't fit in your cougar. There also pretty good on gas.

Oh and anyone who says a truck isn't supposed to bog while climbing hills, hasn't driven a real truck.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

im on my 6th ranger, so im kinda biased....i love em.

that looks like a long bed....is it a 2.3 or 3.0?
the 2.3 duratec is a  good lil motor, good power, and fuel economy.

as for whether its a real truck or not....ive done alot of towing with rangers. they may not be the ideal tow rig, but they will get the job done when needed. they are perfect for household and junkyard runnin around.

id keep it.

I want to thank everyone for their input

As of right now, I've decided to keep it, and use it to cross the border without having to use my wife's car. I've also been eying a TC and a Mark at the JY. I think it will be handy to get the rear end home and those red leather seats I saw in the Mark. Most of my driving is in a 5-7 mile range, and with the comfort level being not on fords list of things to achieve, I think it will do for at least the next summer. If I find that I don't use it much, I'll sell it or trade it before next winter. It's not worth much right now anyway. only 5 grand as a trade in, and 7 to sell.

You won't get hardly anything for it trading it in, and you'll get alot more out of it if you kept it.  My $.02

For around-the-town parts running they work pretty good.

no matter what any one says about what they hauled in the trunk of there car. there nothing like a truck bed! keep it.
plus it was your dads and he want YOU to have it! if he wanted you to sell it or traded it. he could have done that ,instead he gave it to you for a reason!
remember it easier to fix them, than to find them after they been crushed.
