The Sport has a 5 speed !!!!!

The 5 speed is in.It is a TOTALLY different car now.Awesome.It can't hardly keep the rear wheels from spinning.Nice.It actually went a lot better and smoother than I would have thought. No problems at all,no hang ups.The plug on the T-5 plugged right in to the AOD harness for the back up lights to work....which they do.After having an AOD for so many years,I do have to adjust, and I will over time.I took a few pics. Not as many as I had hoped, but I was busy and had my mind on other things (tranny swap). Here they are....for what it's worth.

5 speed bits and pieces...

Aod shifter parts...no,I will not part them out. They'll sell all together or not at all.

Up on the ramps and stands next to my buddy's '67 Stang we've been working on...

First peek at the shifter....

The 5 speed up there where it now lives...

All done.Here it is......

Great job Vinnie.

I would like to offer something that concerns me though. I noticed you used ramps for the job. They do look like a sturdy set, but... My father once used ramps. He was getting ready for an oil change on the family vehicle. Got it on the ramps, and before he got under (luckily) one of the ramps collapsed! Every since that day, I have never used ramps again. Its always jackstands. I know there are a lot of folks out there that use ramps, but please be careful. My dad got lucky, but the next fellow might not.

Yep, the 5-speed was the best thing I did for my car. The next best thing will be when I get lers that don't drone.

NICE!!  That's awesome, the car is looking good too!  keep up the good work.  I do have to ask though: what does the washer fluid reservoir have to do with a 5 spd swap??  :hick:

oh, and I've personally seen a ramp like that collapse as well!  Be careful....  maybe get a $40 set from autozone, they are plastic but have lots of vertical bracing underneath (think corrugated cardboard).

what did you use to remove the automatic?  do you have a trans dolly?  i need to swap my trans eventually, but worry about the clearance and weight to swap on jackstands

I may get new jack stands, but for today,I don't care because I have a 5 SPEED !!!! The washer bottle was from my blue T-Bird in the banner. We're going to adapt and install it (like the T-Bird) on the Stang next to my car.For removing the AOD,we used a tranny jack to install it last year, but we used a two ton floor jack with a flat piece of 18 x18 wood under the pan.No big deal.It slid right off the engine,we lowered the jack, and just sat the tranny to the ground and slid it out from under the car.Again,it took just about 15 minutes from start to finish to remove it.The car even sounds a little different on acceleration.Nice !!! Now,I need a front fender to get the bodywork done and paint.

Daminc,I HAVE to get all of the mechanical stuff done before I paint it !!! LOL. THEN,seatbelts and more go in and on the car.Everything from new windows, new lights, new emblems, dew wipes, etc.

The shifter lever was loose, and I couldn't tighten it,so,I re-installed the factory Stang shift lever.I'll pick up some new bolts today and get the pistol grip and aluminum shift lever back on quick.I really like the pistol grip,it fits the hand perfectly.I will drive a little more tomorrow, today the Sport is getting a good rest since we're going out of town.We take the wife's Honda Accord for that.A/C really comes in handy when it's supposed to be 107 or so today.

I'm keeping my shift lever covered with the leather boot, and,I'm keeping the billet Hurst pistol grip shifter.

As far as how many hours I have in this car....Hmmmmmm.....hard to say.quite a few I'm sure, but not as many as one might think. The car, even from the salvage yard, was very solid, and very complete.I've replaced the interior,engine,rear-end,tranny (obviously),engine, exhaust, hood, header panel, front and rear bumper cover....well,almost everything so far has been replaced.I still have new windows, headlights, corner lights, fog lights, and a lot of other parts. It's been crazy, but I love the Sport.I'll be selling some more parts to fund more of the build.I promised my wife that I wouldn't take any money from our pay checks,so,selling parts has paid for it...and trading. One piece at a time.
