Charity $$$ idea

Ok, I was driving home this morning and an idea popped into my head for a creative way to possibly raise a little bit more money for our charities.

Now keep in mind that I haven't even thought this through, so there could be a million reasons to not do it, or to do it with changes. I just wanted to post it before I forgot about it to see what the thinking would be.

So here's the idea;

At the car show we could each have a container sitting by our car, with a poster stating what it's for (and maybe a big poster or two at each end). What these containers would be for is for show goers to vote for their favorite CoolCats car by dropping money in the appropriate container. It's up to them how much, a penny, a dollar, a fiver, whatever they want. At a given time we then count the money in our containers and whoever has the most, wins......bragging rights. We then pool all the money together and add it to our charity money.

We would want the posters to be clear where the money would be going. This could give the show-goer a fun way to help out the charities. And it wouldn't really matter which of our cars wins, the real winner would be the charities.

Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?

Interesting concept. I like the idea itself, however, I am not sure of the legalities of it.
What I mean is, you have to be careful when you say you are gathering money from the public to send to charities. If anyone were to ask for proof that you sent it, or how much money was raised, etc, you'd need to be able to provide that.
I'm afraid it could set us up for some legal issues that we might not be able to or want to handle.

Like I said, I didn't think it through before posting. Just had the idea and thought I'd share.

It's a good one, Kevin. As I said, I like it. But, the way some people can be these days, nothing is that simple anymore. It's rather sad really.

If you have someone from the charity your going to donate to, you can get around that problem. If we picked 1 charity to donate to it would make it easier. then all the money that everyone collected could also go to it. it would only show one that collected the most donations though. Every year could be a different charity.

We already have the charities picked out that we donate to every year. Usually there are 3, Angels for Animals, (last year) Shriner's Children's Hospital, and the car guys that put on the show and always save our spots for us there.

Eric has worked really hard to get all of the charity stuff worked out and it's been voted on by attendees to approve the charities we donate to. Personally, I think it would be a disservice to them if we split it all up and made them wait a few years between donations.

The ones we donate to need the money we give them every year. Angels for Animals rescues thousands of animals every year and their care is very expensive. But, they all get a lot of love and they have a really nice facility (if you've never been there) for the animals to live in till they are adopted.

Shriner's helps kids who need orthopedics and who are burn victims. They do it at no cost to the families of the kids. Any surgeries, hospital stays, etc are fully covered. They too help thousands of kids every year.

It's just too hard to split it up and make them wait (in my opinion) when they need all the help they can get financially each year to do all of the work they do.

**I'm not trying to offend anyone, please don't feel that way. I just really think that for all the hard work Eric (and others) have put into Cat Jam and the charities we donate to, we shouldn't fix what isn't broken.**

I actually meant as an extra charity fund raiser not taking away from the original ones that get donated to.
