Looking for a logic board (Well This Is Different. LOL)

I cooked another logic board in my powerbook last week.
If anyone has a working Powerbook G4 Aluminum 15" 1.67 GHz. DVI Logic board. Or powerbook that has a cooked display and want to sell the rest of it.
PM me please.

It looks like this.
Powerbook Model #A1106 (3rd Generation)

Man...what's up with that?!

There's got to be a reason why the temperatures are getting so hot. Maybe your hard drive is staying active or is dying? How about the fan...does it work at all? Is it working overtime? Are there any places where you have to apply thermal paste? I never saw any on my PB 15" 1.25 GHz when I had it apart (HD & Superdrive upgrades). Have you been using any kind of temperature monitoring software? There are a few available for OS X.

I don't have any more Apple connections but I will keep my eyes open for you.

Thanks Eric,
There's a ton of paste on it, This will be my 3rd board if I find one cheap enough on ebay.
I guess there's a heat problem with the 1.5 and 1.67 powerbooks.(I heard they overclocked these to get the speeds). Apple doesn't let the computers use It's fans to their fullest, because of battery power management. the battery only lasts 20 min. with the fans running at top speed, compared to 3 hrs at the minimal setting.
I added fan monitoring software and its been working great up till now, but it wasn't cooling down last week.
And every time there's an update it has to restart and if its too hot it won't. I usually make sure the fans are running fast before I reboot. but I forgot for last weeks update, and it locked up at the apple screen. That was the last I saw of it.

If I can't find a board under $400, I'll have to get a new Macbook, and keep this one on the back burner till I score something cheap to repair it. this one is too big anyway. I'm going 13" for a portable this time, because Its not my main computer anymore.
the one I'm on now is a quad 2.6 dual monitor for my studio. I don't like to use it other than the reason I got it for. It does rip a good dvd though. (I hope nothing ever dies on that one)

Currently, I'm tracking another board on Ebay. the price right now is $10.99 with 3 days left. keep your fingers crossed. most of these boards go for about $400, so anything less then that, will be a win for me

Sheesh...that really sucks. I really haven't heard much about the PowerBooks after mine was made, as far as performance. Just figured they were on par with mine, just a little faster; guess not. I have had not one problem with my PB since new in December 2003. It has performed absolutely flawlessly and has never EVER locked up in that time. Haven't seen a kernel panic yet. Guess I got lucky LOL.

Right now there are excellent deals on refurbished MacBooks at the Apple Store online. ;)  Been eyeing a few things over there myself...

I saw that too. I'll probably go for the refurb, myself

My powerbook only had a problem 3X since I owned it. this is #3.
Never crashed or slowed down except those 3 times

So I put my old board back in this morning and re- attach everything so I don't lose or forget where everything goes. plug it in, press the button, and it starts right up. What the hell.......
now it's doing a major update and reboot as I type this.
we'll see if it starts up again after the update
more to follow...........................

Hmmm...cool, hope it works out! Let us know.

Hellsing, Apple motherboards are unique and can only be bought new through an authorized Apple Service Provider (or if AppleCare is purchased, it will be replaced through Apple itself). I wish it was as easy as ordering from another company. That would make life a lot easier...typically a motherboard (logic board, in Applespeak LOL) is about $200-400, sometimes more depending on the model. And every single model has its own unique logic board--no interchanging for you! The good news is, the components on the board and inside the computer itself (optical drive, hard drive, RAM, cabling, etc.) are universal in most instances. That's about the only break we get. ;)

Well it went through the update and it didn't restart.
BTW the cheapest I saw this board on ebay was $400, about half way to a new macbook, thats more then double the speed of this one. and this one IS FAST, can't imagine what a new one would be like

I'm going to let it cool down. it goes through the motions and sounds of starting, but it never gets to the apple screen. It's got to be a heat problem or the sudden motion sensor, which instantly kills the computer power to the board and hard drive area is the problem. the drive doesn't seem to wind up after it accesses it on power up.
I may put it in the freezer for a bit. Don't laugh, it works with hard drive problems

I've built computers for a living. (had my own computer store/ electronic repair shop)
and let me tell you, until you surfed and used a mac for image and video editing. you'd never ever go back.
Right Eric
