He'll get it. Just do a search for "boss 429" in ebay motors. A fan for $1200, a set of rockers for $1800, a complete '69 Boss '9 currently at $120,000. Boss '9 parts are hella rare and hella 'spensive!

so far,, its not a "BOSS" perse'.  still digging but if the heads are original,, they dont fit the boss data i have.
--------

its prbably a cobra or super cobra jet
not a boss.  Someone needs to tell him.

i bet if he knew there was a 429nascar, he'd probably called it that.

What differentiates the 'BOSS' from a regular 429 other than the heads/intake?

Those are definitely Boss heads. Not even a bit of doubt there. They are some of the most beautiful heads ever produced. The D-shape was the ports, not the valves (D-shaped valves wouldn't work), and the "crescent" shaped chambers are actually semi-hemispherical, hence the engine's nickname "Semi-Hemi". It's also known as the "Blue Crescent".

Even if the block isn't correct I'd wager he'd get the $20k for the heads, intake and valve covers. Those things are very, VERY rare, way rarer than any Chrysler Hemi. I think they made something like 1200-1300 engines, just enough to make it NASCAR legal (they needed 500 per year).

Didja know there were two Boss 429 Cougars made in '69? I think one of them has been found and is undergoing a concours restoration. Imagine what THAT sucker will be worth...

apparently, my info is not a good resource.  I need to mix match some info i found on timelife about muscle cars and see what i come up with.  Thunderchicken picked on those being boss heads right way and im still a little confused myself.  ,,, missing the see and touch factor cause you dont run into this stuff anymore in person.

Nevertheless,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
i dont give a  about any of my opinions on it being boss or not, id die for that whole setup!!!!!!!!!!! as it sits boss or not.

I was actually more interested in number 1 main bearing but the photo does not show it.

which photo showed the exhaust chambers anyway,,?

Just look at that valve train,, drooooolllll

Identifying Boss heads is simple. If it has valve covers that look like that it's a Boss. The Boss was Ford's answer to the Hemi, which would explain the big-assed Hemi-style valve covers. The engine was so wide that Ford had to modify the '69-'70 Mustang's shock towers just to fit it in.

The '69 Boss 429 Mustang is, and always has been, the #1 item on my "things to buy when I win the lotto" list.

I thought that Cobra Jets and Super Cobra Jets were a 428 engine...?
I'd guess that those Boss 429's are one of the rarest big-block engines ever...
Kar Kraft, an outsource company, actually modified the 69 and 70 Boss Mustangs for the huge engine.
They had to widen the front track of the car, which improved the handling of the car, coincidentally.
Also, the battery was installed in the trunk for more under-the-hood room.

I think starting in '70 or '71 the hi-perf 429 was called the Cobra Jet. I'm not sure though, Tom would probably know better than I.
