...
That was a huge upset.

Dad and I took a 30min drive to the downtown everett lowes to pick up one of those Kobalt 7hp 60gal for under $380, And they had just sold the last 2 already. :punchballs: :punchballs: :punchballs:

The computer was showing one left, But after some searching the employee comes out with a manager, and says its in the back as a return with a faulty regulator and they cant sell it to me.

Every other store in the state is supposedly sold out except for returns (which they wont sell).

My search continues...
I stopped into harbour freight while we were in everett and took a look at the 29gal i mentioned above... It truly does look badly made.
I picked up a gravity feed spray gun on sale for $10, A 5" cut off wheel tool for $6 and payed a little more for a 50ft goodyear hose... But the $10 ones looked like .

The spray gun actually seems pretty nice... its usually about 39.99 when not on sale, Hard to test it though when i dont have a compressor yet, heh.

Anyone have any advice on the Campbell Hausfield compressor at the puppies shop for $125, That's leaking oil?
Any ideas if its an easy fix or not? it would be a great deal if i could fix it... It puts out a little over 10cfm.

Heres a pic of basicly the same model and where its leaking from:

It's leaking just below where the fins start and connect to the lower base.
(Sorry, I dont klnow the exact names of these parts yet...)

I've got a portable dual tank CH that i use on the job.
Its the oil-less compressor. I've run it 6-8 hrs straight pretty much daily for almost 7 years now.
I was a little worried when I bought it, but It's been very reliable.
Mine doesn't run on a 15 amp outlet though. which was the reason I bought it
Other than that, great comp. for the money. not sure if the quality is still the same.
I checked out some of the newer Chs and they don't rate as high as mine as far as SCFMs

I would guess it needs a new gasket, unless the motor is cracked. or warped.
if its all one piece then its probably cracked.
how well did you check it out?
did you run it?
how much oil does it leak?

Here are a few pics of my compressor, which I am quite happy with, but I would probably get a bigger one next time...

I would reccomend this one to anybody that is looking for one for the occasional job around the house...  Sandblasting cars and alot of rusty parts makes it work though.

Yea, For some reason compressors nowadays have low CFM ratings... Im not sure what's going with that...

And i havent done any thorough testing on the unit, Ill try and stop by here soon and do that.

The only reason i knew it was leaking oil is because the 50% tag mentioned it.
I ran my fingers around all the areas until i found grease remains, Which actually didnt seem like very much... Just a thin layer all the way around the circled area.

It didnt seem like it would come apart, But it may disassemble from the bottom up.
I really am hoping it just a seal, And would like to give it a shot... But with it being from a puppies shop... im pretty sure ill be stuck with it if its not fixable.

After Doing some more research:
It looks like the oil leaking puppies shop compressor would be a bad idea, As it seems to be leaking from the Vent crankcase and may need extreme repair to the piston and pump.
Also, the cfm ratings would probably be more in the 6cfm range since its a 115v.

I'm really not interested in the harbour freight compressors anymore, Due to the bad quality things i hear of them.

For some reason none of the local Home Depot carry the 60gallon Husky Compressors... So i dont think i'll be able to get one of those.

The new Kobalt 60gal seems just as good as the last model and even quiter (76db!), It has a cast iron setup, Built in the us (Possibly by campbell hausfeld?) And has a surprisngly lower everyday price of $399.
I'm very interested in this one, And it's basicly my last hope at this point for the 10+cfm output in this price range.

Of course i would prefer a 30gal... But i would much rather buy a compressor and not have to worry about it for a very long time, heh.

Heres the one im probably gonna get unless something shows up locally:
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=138336-71025-KLA3706056&lpage=none
I think this would be my best bet, And my options are very limited around here... What do you guys think?

your probably making the right choice for the money.
It rates pretty high in the output range.

My rule of thumb is buy the best you can afford at the time.
you'll use it for the next 20 years. even if you bought another one somewhere down the road, i'm sure you'll find another use for this one also

I've also just found out i can get a 10% off coupon, And possibly even purchase a 20% coupon from ebay, So this would bring the cost down to $350-395 including tax depending on which coupon i used!

The time is soon coming to make a compressor purchase.

I was just in Sears to pick up a shop vac, and took a look at the 60gal floor unit they had...
It's really ALOT heavier and a bit larger than i was expecting, I had only previously been seeing up to 30gal sizes in person.

I'm at the dilemma of where i would really much prefer the 30gal size with wheels, But i would like to have the power to run sanders and paint sprayers.

This is the one i had originally picked out:
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=138336-71025-KLA3706056&lpage=none
But, they havent had it in stock for a couple months locally...

The 30gal in the kobalt i had previously picked out has pretty low cfm output, especially with the huge dual cylinder motor it has on it:
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=215921-71025-KLA1683066&detail=desc&lpage=none

But it mentions its dual voltage 120/240~Factory wired for 120.
Would it get higher ratings if it were wired for 240?

That is probably the rating for the 240. Although I would ask someone at the store.

Oh come on...
I've been checking the lowes website daily to see if they have gotten any of the 60gal in stock, So last night it finnaly shows that they should have some.
It's late so i wait 'till this morning to call and confirm, But before i do, I check the site again to find that theres no sign of any kobalt compressor at all... except 1 result for the 60gal which now has a price of 89.97! i get excited and click the icon, But the page cant be found? :punchballs:

WTF is going on?
So i call like 6 of the nearest stores and ask if they have the item number in stock, They cant find it in the system.
I ask if they have ANY 60 gal compressor at all 6 of the stores... None have them and a couple said they are clearing out the kobalt brand???

So basicly i'm back to screwed locally.

If anyone stops into lowes any time soon, could you pass by the compressors/tools and see if they have any closeouts on kobalt stuff? i wonder whats going on.

I was just thinking about this thread and wondering if you had bought yet.
Was a Home Depot at Jatzen Beach Saturday the 2nd and they had 6 of the 60 gal Husky's
Was at Home Depot on Padden Parkway in Vancouver on Friday and they had 3.
(I spend a lot of time and $$ at Lowes and Home Depot these days)

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Oh wow!
Last time i had visited the Home Depot site looking for 60gal's, they didnt have any listed...
But now they do have the 60gal Husky listed, and they even say they have some in stock at our nearest store.

Hmm, i was kind of set on the kobalt, But it's giving me so much trouble to try and get one. :punchballs:

I went into our local lowes to find they had the 80gal and 30gal with a big empty spot for the 60gal...
I ask the employee about the 60 and get the ussual "We will get some in eventually" answer.
No sign of any closeouts discontinues, And the employee was none too helpful or knowledgeable on the subject.

I'll go have a look in store at the Husky, I'm hoping the noise levels are low... The kobalts 76db claim was a huge plus for me since the compressor will be so close to the house.

Owch!
Looks too late for me, The Add to cart is faded now, Didn't even notice it!.

Oh,
And has anyone tryed to self haul a 60 or 80 compressor? like in a truck or van?
And how did that go?
Currently ive got my mom's '89 caravan (lol) with both back seats out, A dolly and a few boards... Hoping this will accomplish getting a 60gal home.
Am i out of my mind? :hick:
I'm almost positive this wont work with a 80gal, But for some reason i seem confident a 60 will, lol.
