So, uh, I don't own any cars anymore...

No BS.

This dealership is full of liars and swindlers. I made a $500 hold in order to see the car as I live an hour's drive away. I made sure to ask four times whether or not it was refundable, and stated four times that I am in no way agreeing to buy the car. Mr. "Bryrick" informed me that this was "standard procedure, there is no agreement to buy, and the deposit is always 100% refunded regardless of transaction". I've done this before on car deals and NEVER had a problem.

So we drive an hour down there last night. They were rude and condescending. The car was good enough, but their price was a little high. I offered them $245 less then they advertised (less then 2% of the total price) and they absolutely would not budge. Needless to say I didn't buy the car. After being treated like  and being lied to (he told us that there were no other versions of this car anywhere in the Portland area on AutoTrader, which is BS, there's 27 of them, then the car magically had tinted windows and he wanted to charge for it, and on top of all of that he tried tacking on $70 for a "trip fee" but the  plates were good until 2009!). Mr. "Bryrick" then escorted us out of the dealership.

He REFUSED to give us a receipt showing the hold as returned, and REFUSED to let us see a manager. We had to call the police!

The Sheriff's office was very nice. They had us call the credit card company and NOT authorize the transaction, and then they called me back within an hour and filed a report.

The STEALership was "St. Helens Auto" (Ford dealer) in St. Helens, OR.

You can bet your car the BBB will hear about it (and I already posted the story on Yahoo Local). If the crooks try to charge the $500 and for some reason the CC company allows it (they shouldn't, they're actually pretty good) then this story will be plastered all over the local papers.

We've never been treated like so much dog-doo in our lives. It was like being talked to like a child and guilt-tripped into a car. We're the ones who wasted 3 hours on a Friday, it's their JOB to sell cars!

Not joking. They're great around an auto-cross course, 4-doors, surprisingly roomy inside, and have a serious turbo motor. They will flat-out haul butt.

After spending 8 hours yesterday car shopping we're looking at other stuff. I hate car salesmen...

I didn't mean to sound outta line, but my only experiences with Neons are wathing 'em burn, watching em break down, and watching 'em be hauled en masse into junkyards...I suppose that the newer generation(s) were built better. ;)
Good luck on your quest :D

Pacer, no.

Javelin or AMX, whatever is in his garage... YES!

We started looking at bigger 2-doors. Trying to find a fun 4-door at a reasonable price is like trying to find Cougar convertible...
