Cat Convertor Replacements

Need to replace my convertors on my 87 5.0, I am planning on have custom duals ran, so I have 3 questions.

1.  What convertor do you recommend I get, any got high flow ones?
2.  How many do I need?
3.  Are there any sensors that these cars use that will come into play when installing new convertors?

wrong section but ill tell you any way.... you need 2 and normal ones will work and yes there are 2 O2 censors right after the headder (i assume your running headders) i would go with a bbk h-pipe and bbk headders

1> none :) but if you have to,, get a couple from the bone yard, gut them and mount em in place

2>  2 i guess, not sure.  You might find a bone yard converter with two inlets and two outlets. if you do, gut it for sure then mount it

3> none if you keep your headers. you'll have to work that out later on if you run into smog pump problems.  If emissions is an issue, you might as well fabricate that into your exhaust system on the pass side.

This depends on state emission standards. Right now my car doesn't have any cats on it but thanks to the state of Maryland, I will have to put some on before I take it for emissions.

Dont they make that fluid stuff that is supposed to "garrentee pass of emissions"???

Unfortunatly the guaranteed to pass stuff will not pass a visual part of the emssions inspection. They put mirrors under the car to be sure you have cats. Or atleast they do in MD.

Read the fine print in those "guarantees" some time. Your car has to have all the emission equipment it came with, it all has to be functioning properly, and you have to be able to provide proof that you've had tuneups done at the factory-specified intervals prior to the failed smog test. Otherwise the guarantee is just toilet paper.
Death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth.

in cali, you can get pulled over and if the cop looks under the car and sees you have no cats, say bye-bye to your car. CA has the worst emissions laws, cuz we have the worst air quality. I want to use longtubes, but they aren't smog legal and I don't want to run the risk of getting the car impounded for a few hp/tq

Rising Sun MD!!!
i have one bad memory of that place a long time ago.  Going to PA taking the bay bridge,, bad hang over and about the time the sun came up i was in rising sun md. it sucked cause my head was pounding and daylight burned to the back of my skull.  I pulled over somewhere to get new sunglasses in that town and cursed the irony of it. :giggle:

correct me if im wrong but doesnt the road sort of zig zag through that town? I was really pissed cause it seemed that every turn i made put the nose of my car right in the sun.  I was like ,,OMG  ,,im going north GOD,, not east.

That's funny :giggle:
It zig zags depending on which way you go in. If you go in one way, you can drive straight through without making any turns. If you go in another way and you are unfamiliar with the place, you will find yourself making a ton of turns without seeing a clear way out. It does get blinding when there is a clear morning.
