The dyno guy's been doing this day in, day out for years, I have to believe he knew what he was doing even if I don't know how he did the math.Yes, a good condition AOD will have around 20% parasitic loss. Reply #18 – October 11, 2007, 12:28:12 PM Okay the dyno guy finally replied to my email and this is what he said:"The tests were run in 3rd as second cannot be manually selected on your car. The conversion I use for SAE net is as follows: ((Wheel HP) + (auto trans loss)) / 0.75 (159+25)/.75 = 245.3 HP SAE Net."I'm not sitting behind the wheel at the moment but I don't remember my car having an option for 3rd. And anyway my gear ratio graph has 3rd as the 1:1 gear not 0.75:1. Guess I gave the guy too much credit for experience....Oh well. I kinda had the timing screwed up for that run, I'll probably do better next time. Quote Selected
Like dyno graphs? Reply #19 – October 11, 2007, 07:33:33 PM Stared at the gear selector a bit on the way home. Like I thought there's no selection for third gear. But interestingly enough the 3rd selection up is the Overdrive. Now I know it's been said that it's doubtful the transmission would shift into Overdrive on hard acceleration but I know it has before during a little street race. Besides he didn't stab the gas and go to town with it, he ran it in the midrange for a bit before going for broke. And the overdrive ratio is about right for these results. Just speculation I guess.
